🚐 Prerequisites for Becoming an SU Driver

To drive SU vehicles safely and legally, all prospective drivers must meet the eligibility requirements and complete the appropriate training. The steps differ depending on whether you are driving minibuses/vans or 9/7/5‑seater cars.

🚌 Becoming an SU Driver – Minibus (17‑Seater) & Van

Eligibility Requirements

  • Aged 21 or over

  • Minimum 2 years’ driving experience on a UK licence

  • Non‑UK licence holders cannot drive SU minibuses

  • Must have no more than 4 licence points

Training Requirements

  • Complete MiDAS Theory Session (online via CTA)

  • Complete and pass a one‑hour practical MiDAS test drive

  • Read, understand, and follow the Union Transport Guidelines

🚗 Becoming an SU Driver – 9/7/5‑Seater Cars

Eligibility Requirements

  • Aged 18 or over

  • Minimum 1 year’s driving experience

  • Must hold a UK or EU licence with at least 1 year of current driving experience

Training Requirements

  • Attend at least one training session before driving

  • Complete the online Driver Registration Form

  • Applications may be affected by:

    • Licence points

    • Medical conditions

    • Motor claims within the last 5 years

  • Read, understand, and follow the Student Union Transport Guidelines

💷 Training Costs

  • 9‑Seater Test: £25

  • MiDAS Course (17‑Seater): £45 Costs are payable by the Club/Society.
