About Cardiff University Students' Union

Cardiff University Students’ Union (CUSU) has a vision of working with every Cardiff student to enhance their university experience. As a student-led, independent part of the university, CUSU represents students and provides a diverse and inclusive range of activities and services that enrich student life. These include advice, training, skills development, volunteering opportunities, employment and other services that promote inclusion, friendship and personal development. CUSU supports over 200 student societies and 60 sports clubs that boast more than 10,000 members. CUSU is also the recognised voice of students at Cardiff University, joining students in campaigning about the issues important to them.

CUSU is based on Park Place and at the Heath Park campus, employing over 100 permanent staff and 300 student staff. The trading subsidiary of CUSU, Cardiff Union Services Limited, manages a purpose built facility in the centre of Cardiff and operates cafes, shops, bars and events that help fund CUSU’s charitable activities. The organisation holds 'Gold' status through Investors in People and the 'Excellent' accreditation under the National Union of Students, Quality Students’ Unions quality mark. CUSU aspires to have a positive impact on the wider community in Cardiff, and is consistently graded the number one Students’ Union in Wales and in the top five in the UK for student satisfaction.

What we do

Amplify the voice of students

We ensure that the Cardiff student voice is heard across the University, within the local community and in wider society. We do this by supporting a broad range of student representatives within the Union and from each from academic reps within each of the University’s academic programmes.

Facilitate and support a wide range of student activities

We provide the support, facilities and other resources to enable students to set up and develop their own societies, sports clubs, volunteering projects and other student interest groups. More than half of all Cardiff students are a member of at least one of these groups.

Provide services and facilities for students

We deliver a wide range of services that support students whilst they study, prepare them for their future careers, and help them have fun and make friends. The University Union building on Park Place offers a wide range of facilities for our students to use 24 hours a day during term time. These include study and social spaces, bookable meeting spaces, prayer facilities.

24 Hour Opening

As of October 2014, Cardiff University Students' Union is open 24 hours a day for use by students. This will provide valuable space for study in The Lounge throughout the day and night, seven days a week.

Study space is also available in Y Plas 24 hours a day each week, except Wednesday and Saturday.
