For Campaign Officer roles (those with Officer in the title) all current students at Cardiff University are eligible to run providing they are intending to be a student for the next full academic year (2026/2027) and they match the individual eligibility criteria for the role they are running for. For Sabbatical Officer roles (those with President or Vice President in the title) all current students at Cardiff University are eligible to run as long as they are either finishing their studies or are willing/able to take an interruption of study for the next full academic year (2026/27) and they match the individual eligibility criteria for the role they are running for. For Student Senate all Cardiff University students are eligible providing they do not already hold a position on Student Senate (i.e. are not a Campaign Officer). Ar gyfer Senedd y Myfyrwyr mae holl fyfyrwyr Prifysgol Caerdydd yn gymwys ar yr amod nad oes eisoes ganddynt le ar y Senedd (h.y. nid ydynt yn Swyddog Ymgyrchu).

For each of the Officers' Exec committees you must have a clear connection to the Exec you are running for. e.g. to run for the Postgraduate Exec you must be a postgraduate student. The Students’ Union fit-to-stand requirements exist to protect students from the continuous or potential harm that could be caused by a candidate who is either under investigation or who has had complaints upheld against them in matters relating to harassment, assault, and sexual violence. Mae gofynion Addas i Sefyll Undeb y Myfyrwyr yn bodoli i amddiffyn myfyrwyr rhag y niwed parhaus neu bosibl a allai gael ei achosi gan ymgeisydd sydd naill ai dan ymchwiliad neu y mae cwynion wedi'u cadarnhau yn ei erbyn mewn materion sy'n ymwneud ag aflonyddu, ymosodiad a thrais rhywiol.

When submitting their nominations candidates will be asked to confirm they are ‘fit-to-stand’ and know of no reason why they should be ineligible based on the Students’ Union fit-to-stand requirements. Candidates are asked to agree to the following statement: Wrth gyflwyno eu henwebiadau gofynnir i ymgeiswyr gadarnhau eu bod yn 'addas i sefyll' ac nad ydynt yn gwybod am unrhyw reswm pam na ddylent fod yn gymwys yn seiliedig ar ofynion addasrwydd i sefyll Undeb y Myfyrwyr. The Fit-to-Stand policy only covers instances where complaints/investigations have been launched against a student prior to the close of nominations. Where complaints are raised relating to the matters listed within the Fit-to-Stand policy after the close of nominations and once the list of candidates is made public then a candidates’ position in the election will remain unchanged until the completion of that investigation, unless deemed necessary by the investigating body. If at any point a candidate or successfully elected individual is found to have lied or misled the Students’ Union Election Team in respect to their eligibility to stand, they may be disqualified from the election or removed from their position. The Students’ Union will use the answers candidates provide to the candidate questions to produce promotion materials that will be shared online and placed around the Students’ Union building. All candidates are asked to answer three questions. These questions are aimed at helping students understand the type of student representative a candidate would be if elected and the priorities they would have. Your answers to these questions will appear on the ballot when students vote and will be used throughout the Union’s promotion of the election. Voting in Students' Union election is one way you can ensure your voice is heard. Our elections use the single transferable voting method. Transferable voting allows voters to list the candidates in order of preference. The successful candidate will need 50% of the total number of votes plus 1 to win. If any candidate does not receive enough votes to win, the candidate with the fewest votes is removed and their votes transferred to the other candidates according to voters’ next preference. If you don't believe any of the candidates standing for a position have the qualities you feel are valuable, or you don't agree with their manifesto, you can vote R.O.N. which stands for 're-open nominations'. If R.O.N wins the vote, no one would be elected to this role and the nominations for the role would re-open, giving the opportunity to find the right person to lead your Union.
