Politics Department

The Politics Society collaborates closely with the Politics Department. This includes working on our first annual trip to Belfast in 2019, and joint with the Student Union we were granted over £3000 to go towards this. This made the trip a more affordable price for our members and allowed us to undertake more activities while we were there.

In addition to this, we have dedicated first year and post-grad representatives to allow these politics students to be made aware of the workings of the society, and of other opportunities which we advertise for the department including several Brexit panel talks, guest speaker events and Politics film club.

The Politics Department Film Club is also attended by the society. Three films are chosen per semester, with one from each semester being the student choice film showing, in which students can propose film ideas for the showing. The event takes place in the Law & Politics Building and we invite all those interested to the viewings.

The 2020/21 Committee have created a series of Politics Society podcasts, interviewing lecturers on their fields. This is a fantasic opportunity to get to know your lecturers and their interesting specialities which may not be covered in your modules.

The Politics Department (lecturers in particular) are also active in events that are run and organised by the Society. Lecturers partake in our Christmas Jumper Pub Quiz and also Staff vs Student Sports Days that help in raising money for charity. Lecturers are also invited to attend our annual Politics Society Ball.

Such interactions between the Politics Society and Department ensures that all interactions between Staff and Students will exist and thrive within the Politics community at Cardiff. The Society hopes that such interactions with members of staff allow students to perceive lecturers as approachable if they have any queries regarding their academic work.
