Team Leaders

If you're reading this, we were particularly impressed by you and in awe of your talent. We'd love you to apply to be a Team Leader for our Freshers Team.

This means you'd get a different colour Team Leader t-shirt and control over a team of 10 - 20 volunteers. We'd give you extra leadership and management training and look to you to ensure quality and standards are maintained.

We've had over 400 volunteer applications for the Freshers Team and need talented and capable people to ensure everyone's welfare is maintained, everyone has a point of contact and problems are addressed with skill.

Being a team leader will not be easy, it will challenge you and might push you outside of your comfort zone. But it will be incredibly rewarding, will develop super-cool leadership skills and will make you a mini-celebrity with our amazing team of volunteers.

In addition to the standard volunteering arrangements, we're asking prospective team leaders for a tiny extra commitment (nothing major):

  • To attend an extra training session 9am - 6pm on Sunday 17th September.
  • To arrive early and assist with the main training day on Monday 18th September.

If you're up for the challenge - we're think you're capable. Fill in the form below and the rest will be history.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a paid position?

Similarly to the initial position, this isn’t a paid role – you would however become even more of an expert in the Students’ Union and have a much greater understanding of all the various paid opportunities from the SU through the year. So it’s a huge investment in yourself.

What are the dates of Freshers?

New first year students will generally start arriving in halls from Wednesday 20th September 2017. This is when things will start getting busy. Offically Freshers lasts ten days and so continues until 30th September 2017. Most school enrolements will happen between these dates and term offically begins on Monday 26th September 2017.

What dates do I need to be available?

Special training for team leaders is scheduled for Sunday 17th September. This session is compulsory for Team Leaders. Training for the main team will also happen on Monday 18th September 2017. We would ask you to attend both training days and would have an important role in guiding the learning of the second day.

We'll sort Team Leader rotas flexibly on the first training day.

What if I'm not available for training?

If you're unable to make the Team Leader training date of 17th September amd the main training day on 18th September, you will not be able to commit to the team leader role. But we would still be particularly honoured to have you on the main team!

What if I have other commitments?

We need the Team Leaders to be available for training days and to give up 15-20 hours of their time as orginally advertised. We're planning on be hugely flexible with the rota and so you should be able to structure this role around other commitments.
