About Academic Reps

A student Academic Rep is an elected student who voices the comments, concerns and questions of their course. They represent your ideas, problems and opinions about your University experience to your school. These students are volunteers and are keen to voice your views to the University to help improve your school, college and University as a whole.

We currently have around 1000 reps. With a University of 28,000 students this means that on average there is 1 rep for every 28 students. Every school has reps and most have at least one rep per year group for Undergraduates and Postgraduates. This means that you should be represented not by students in your school but also your year group as we understand a first year Undergraduate may have very different concerns and ideas to a final year Postgraduate student.

Staff Student Panels

Reps attend meetings called Staff Student Panel meetings (SSPs) where they raise ideas, opinions and issues that students have raised with them. The meetings are made up of your schools reps and senior members of staff. These will take place at least twice a year but many schools have at least one meeting per semester.  At these meetings staff and students discuss the points raised and come up with ways to solve any problems that have arisen or given explanations with why certain things have happened for example a change in the curriculum.

If you have any thing you would like to be discussed at your schools SSP please fill in the box below.

College Forums

Anything that cannot be solved at the SSP or that affects not only your school but other schools in your college will be taken to the college forum. The College forum takes place for every college, Biomedical and Life Science BLS, Arts Humanities and Social Science AHSS, and Physical Sciences and Engineering PSE. All 3 of these colleges have 3 meetings a year that are attended by the chairs of SSPs, Senior members of staff including Deans and the Pro Vice Chancellor, along with staff from IT and Libraries.

If there is anything you think is a college wide issue that you would like to be raised please fill in the box below.

Remember the University is really keen to hear your thoughts, ideas and feedback. The Rep system is there for all of you Academic needs. Please look up your reps and talk to them about how your time at Cardiff University is going and if you have any ideas on how that experience could be enhanced.
