Speak Week 2021 Ends...
Speak Week is your chance for your voice to be heard on the issues that really matter to you during your time at Cardiff University. This year, Speak Week takes place twice, once between Monday 22nd – Friday 26th November 2021 and again between Monday 31st January - Friday 4th February 2022 . Give us your feedback, and share your thoughts and ideas about all aspects of being a student at Cardiff.
If you ran the University, what would you keep and what would you change?
What is Speak Week?
Speak Week is an annual campaign run by the Students’ Union, where we give all students the opportunity to provide feedback on the changes that they want to see at Cardiff University. Our Sabbatical Officers will be joined by student volunteers who will be reaching out to as many students as possible, encouraging meaningful discussion, and asking for recommendations for change. The feedback we receive every year is reviewed and used to inform future campaigns and discussions with senior staff.
It is an opportunity for students to answer the question: if you ran the University, what would you keep and what would you change?
This feedback will then be analysed by our elected officers and a Speak Week report will be written. This report will then inform the annual Student review which is presented to the University. From here, partnership projects will be established to enhance or improve topics mentioned by students, and changes will be made.
When is Speak Week?
Speak Week, for the first time, will take place twice this academic year. Once in November 2021 from 22nd to the 26th, and then once again in the second semester from January 31st to February 4th, 2022 to follow up on issues raised in November.
What happens during Speak Week?
Our team of Sabbatical Officers, Campaign Officers and Student Academic Representatives will be across campus encouraging as many students as possible to complete our Speak Week cards. This year, the campaign will take on a blended form so there will be both physical cards and opportunities online to fill out the questions.
What happens to your feedback?
We collect all your comments and use it to tell the University about the big and small changes you’d like to make.

What We Accomplished Last Year
In Speak Week 2020, we collected over 3,800 cards from students, equating to over 7,800 comments. This is a huge amount of feedback and you gave us some brilliant ideas, such as improving academic resources, timetabling and library facilities. In previous years we’ve worked with Cardiff University on a lot of improvements:
- The ASSL opening hours were extended to 24 hours.
- Wi-Fi coverage around campus has been improved.
- Card payments for University Catering became available around campus.
- Exam timetables published two week earlier than before.
The data collected has also helped to inform ongoing projects like Hidden course costs project, Learn+ Project and Physical Learning Spaces Project. You now have the chance to tell us what else you think we can change.
