Jazz Society

Jazz Society

Cardiff University Jazz Society was formed in October 2011 from the long-established Big Band Society. We offer students the opportunity to perform, listen to, and appreciate live jazz music. We run several ensembles that perform regularly throughout each academic year: an auditioned Big Band, a Jazz Orchestra, a Sax Choir and a Jazz Choir. We also run Jam Nights in local venues and go on tour each summer. Previous tours have included Montreux Jazz Festival (2014), Ghent Jazz Festival (2015), Amsterdam (2016), Lake Geneva (2017), Prague (2018) and Belgium (2019).

The society brings its members together to listen to and appreciate live jazz music with other like-minded students. Socials include going to gigs in bars around Cardiff as well as concerts promoted by the School of Music and other jazz venues in South Wales. Whether your interest is in the performance or appreciation of jazz music, this is the society for you.

Following current Government guidelines, Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Choir, Sax Choir and Big Band will continue to run socially distanced rehearsals in the School of Music.

Membership is just £10 per academic year. For 2020-21, we have a fantastic sponsorship deal with Revolution for our members to enjoy.
