The Guild of Societies Tier Structure

Bronze

To achieve ‘Bronze’ status, you must have completed all of the following. Any society not achieving these targets will need to meet with one of the Societies team to discuss the society’s future.

  • Membership of at least 20 members.
  • All activity registered with the Union & all participants registered as Society Members or through another SU department.
  • Written and adhered to a valid constitution.
  • Attendance at all compulsory training throughout the year.
  • All requested documents submitted by the deadlines set by the Societies team.
  • Attendance at all Society Forums.
  • All society funds kept in the Students’ Union bank account.
  • All committee members must be students of Cardiff University and paid members of their society.
  • All contracts signed by the Society were approved by the Union in advance.
  • Society bank account had a constant positive balance, unless pre-agreed.
  • Organised at least 2 socials per semester, 1 of those being non-alcoholic.
  • Adhered to the Guild of Societies Social Policy.
  • Accurate and up-to-date online content on cardiffstudents.com.
  • Turned up to allotted stand and adhered to the guidelines set at Societies Fair.
  • At least three members attended Union AGM. All attendees must be paid members of the Society
  • Ran a democratic committee election, held an AGM & submitted minutes.
  • Encourage your members to fill in the annual satisfaction survey.
  • Have active social media pages and/or groups.

Silver

To achieve ‘Silver’ status, you must have completed all of the Bronze criteria and at least 7 of the Silver criteria. Additional criteria are only available for your Society’s category.

  • Attendance at additional training sessions.
  • Organising 1 fundraising initiative.
  • Increased membership by at least 10% compared to previous year.
  • Organised at least 2 non-alcoholic social events per semester.
  • Organised at least one event per fortnight for members.
  • Ran at least one event advertised as open to the entire student population.
  • Submitted a Society development plan for the following semester.
  • Produced and implemented a handover to the new committee.
  • Hosted one Give it a Go event per semester.
  • Used Cardiff Student Media to promote society events.
  • Promoted and ran events on both the Cathays and Heath campuses.
  • Met a minimum of 60% satisfaction in the annual satisfaction survey.

Activity & Appreciation

  • Held a demonstration of society activity aimed at non-members.
  • Collaboration with another society for an activity or event.

Course Based

  • At least one committee member was a part of the Student-Staff Panel.
  • At least one employability focused event for members.

Cultural & International

  • Collaboration event with another Cultural/International society.
  • Engagement with the BME or International Students’ Officers.

Discussion, Campaign & Awareness

  • Participation in a national or inter-University event.
  • Collaboration with another Discussion, Campaigns or Awareness Society.

Performance & Artistic

  • Collaboration/performance event with another Society.
  • At least one performance open and advertised to the public.

Political & Ideological

  • Engagement with interfaith week or a local/national group relating to the Society’s activity.
  • Hosted or taken part in a debate relating to the society’s aims/activity.

Gold

To achieve ‘Gold’ status, you must have completed all ‘Bronze’ criteria, at least 7 ‘Silver’ criteria and at least 10 of the following ‘Gold’ criteria. Additional criteria are only available for your society’s category.

  • Organising 3 fundraising initiatives or 1 large fundraising event/campaign.
  • Increased membership by over 25% compared to previous year.
  • Held a ‘Reserve Fund’ in Union bank account for a large event or emergencies.
  • Organised three or more non-alcoholic social events per semester.
  • Organised at least one event per week for members.
  • Proved development of Society based on development plan.
  • Developed a social media and marketing development plan.
  • Active involvement within the community.
  • Personal development opportunities for all members.
  • Hosted two Give it a Go events per semester.
  • Collaboration with multiple Societies from different categories for activities or events.
  • Adopted and promoted a Widening Access Policy enabling participation for all.
  • Member recruitment initiatives after Christmas undertaken.
  • Ran an event or activity outside of Cardiff.
  • Met a minimum of 80% satisfaction in the annual satisfaction survey.

Activity & Appreciation

Hosted an event in collaboration with similar student groups from other Universities.

Course Based

Provided academic support for membership through parent schemes, study sessions or other initiatives.

Cultural & International

Participated in Go Global.

Discussion, Campaign & Awareness

Planned and ran a campaign/awareness event in conjunction with the SU.

Performance & Artistic

Participated in Cardiff Fringe or the Winter Showcase.

Political & Ideological

Hosted an awareness or fundraising campaign with the SU.
