At the 2021 Students’ Union Annual General Meeting, Cardiff Students’ Union was mandated to stand in solidarity with UCU and support Industrial Action in 2021/22. We will be submitting a motion to our AGM on the 24th November to give current students the chance to vote on this mandate, but until then, we are fully supporting the forthcoming three days of industrial action proposed by UCU on the 24th, 25th and 30th November.
As stated by UCU, the staff members in higher education who have worked throughout the pandemic and were fundamental to increase the income for the sector, have perceived cuts on their pay, working conditions, and pensions*. Staff working conditions are student learning conditions, and they are also the working conditions of our Postgraduate Research (PGR) students who teach. For this reason, we reaffirm our support behind these students by standing with UCU and by continuing to lobby for fairer contracts for PGR students who teach.
Whilst the SU has a stance supporting the strike, Student Advice are still able to provide free and impartial advice covering disrupted learning; fee queries; and extenuating circumstances to all students.
We recognise that many of our members are paying tuition fees of £9k+ and as per the 2021 AGM motion, we will be lobbying the University for fee reimbursements for any lost contact hours owing to Industrial Action.
We will also work with UCU to facilitate and promote ‘Teach Out’ sessions for students and UCU, a communication platform with students online via the SU Website and offline via space in the Union building, to raise awareness and inform students about any UCU Industrial Action. We encourage our members to engage with and support this activity and respect the staff who are giving up their pay each day they strike and to speak to them about their reasons.

Yng Nghyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol Undeb y Myfyrwyr 2021, rhoddwyd mandad i Undeb Myfyrwyr Caerdydd sefyll mewn undod ag UCU a chefnogi Gweithredu Diwydiannol yn 2021/22. Byddwn yn cyflwyno cynnig i’n cyfarfod cyffredinol blynyddol ar 24ain tachwedd i roi cyfle i fyfyrwyr cyfredol i bleidleisio ar y mandad hwn, ond tan hynny, rydym yn llwyr gefnogi’r tridiau o weithredu diwydiannol sydd i ddod ar ran ucu ar y 24ain, 25ain a’r 30ain tachwedd.
Fel y nodwyd gan UCU, mae'r aelodau staff mewn addysg uwch, sydd wedi gweithio trwy gydol y pandemig ac a oedd yn allweddol i gynyddu incwm i'r sector, wedi gweld gostyngiad yn eu cyflogau, amodau gwaith a phensiynau.1 Mae amodau gwaith y staff yn amodau dysgu’r myfyrwyr, a nhw hefyd yw ein myfyrwyr Ymchwil Ôl-raddedig (PGR) sy'n addysgu dan amodau gwaith. Am y rheswm hwn, rydym yn ailddatgan ein cefnogaeth i’r myfyrwyr hyn trwy sefyll gydag UCU a thrwy barhau i lobïo am gontractau tecach i fyfyrwyr ymchwil ôl-raddedig sy'n addysgu.
Tra bod gan yr UM safiad yn cefnogi'r streic, mae cyngor i fyfyrwyr yn dal i allu darparu cyngor diduedd am ddim yn ymwneud â tharfu ar ddysgu; ymholiadau ynghylch ffioedd; ac amgylchiadau esgusodol i bob myfyriwr.
Rydym yn cydnabod bod llawer o’n haelodau yn talu ffioedd dysgu o £9k+ ac yn unol â chynnig CCB 2021, byddwn yn lobïo’r Brifysgol am ad-daliadau ffioedd am unrhyw oriau cyswllt a gollwyd oherwydd Gweithredu Diwydiannol.
Byddwn hefyd gweithio gydag UCU i hwyluso a hyrwyddo sesiynau 'Dysgu Amgen' ar gyfer myfyrwyr ac UCU, llwyfan cyfathrebu gyda myfyrwyr ar-lein trwy wefan yr UM ac oddi-ar-lein trwy ardal yn adeilad yr Undeb, i godi ymwybyddiaeth a hysbysu myfyrwyr am unrhyw Weithred Ddiwydiannol ar ran UCU. Rydym yn annog ein haelodau i ymgysylltu â’r gweithgaredd hwn a’i gefnogi a pharchu’r staff sy’n ildio’u cyflog bob dydd y maent yn mynd ar streic, ac i siarad â nhw am eu rhesymau.
