A new student common room has open in the Heath Park Campus. The IV Common Room is a brand-new space as a result of partnership work between the Students’ Union and Cardiff University after years of lobbying for more and improved students’ spaces at the Heath. This is an amazing student win for Heath Park students.

The Heath Park Campus is home to over 7000 students, however, there has been a distinct lack of suitable social space. For many years students have asked for more and improved spaces where they can have a warm meal, socialise with friends, relax after a long day, or take a break from the library.

In 2022, the Sabbatical Officer team submitted a Student View to the University on study spaces and campus opening hours. This report brings together data collated from students across Speak Week, Speak Week focus groups, Cardiff University Pulse, national surveys and student democratic functions to examine areas of concern for students surrounding their study spaces on campus. The Student View additionally makes recommendations for implementation to improve the wider student experience at Cardiff University.

This new space is a great example of what we do with students’ feedback and why the student voice matters. We hope that the provision of this new student space will bring a sense of belonging for students, build meaningful learning communities and foster collaboration between students in the campus.

The common room is located on the Ground Floor of the Neuadd Meirionnydd building, which can be accessed through the IV lounge or the main entrance. The space will be open from 7:30am - 10pm every day and a student ID will be needed to gain access after 4pm.

Mae ystafell gyffredin newydd i fyfyrwyr wedi agor ar Gampws Parc y Mynydd Bychan. Mae'r Lolfa IV yn ofod newydd sbon o ganlyniad i waith partneriaeth rhwng Undeb y Myfyrwyr a Phrifysgol Caerdydd ar ôl blynyddoedd o lobïo am fwy o fannau a mannau gwell i fyfyrwyr yn y Mynydd Bychan. Mae hon yn fuddugoliaeth anhygoel i fyfyrwyr Parc y Mynydd Bychan.

Mae Campws Parc y Mynydd Bychan yn gartref i dros 7000 o fyfyrwyr, fodd bynnag, bu diffyg amlwg o ran mannau cymdeithasol addas. Ers blynyddoedd lawer mae myfyrwyr wedi gofyn am fwy o fannau a mannau gwell lle gallant gael pryd o fwyd cynnes, cymdeithasu â ffrindiau, ymlacio ar ôl diwrnod hir, neu gymryd egwyl o'r llyfrgell.

Yn 2022, cyflwynodd tîm y Swyddogion Sabothol Farn y Myfyrwyr i’r Brifysgol ar fannau astudio ac oriau agor y campws. Mae’r adroddiad hwn yn dwyn ynghyd ddata a gasglwyd gan fyfyrwyr ar draws yr Wythnos Siarad, grwpiau ffocws Wythnos Siarad, Cipolwg Caerdydd, arolygon cenedlaethol a digwyddiadau democrataidd myfyrwyr i archwilio meysydd sy’n peri pryder i fyfyrwyr ynghylch eu mannau astudio ar y campws. Mae Barn y Myfyrwyr hefyd yn gwneud argymhellion ar gyfer gweithredu er mwyn gwella profiad ehangach y myfyrwyr ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd.

Mae'r gofod newydd hwn yn enghraifft wych o'r hyn a wnawn gydag adborth myfyrwyr a pham mae llais y myfyrwyr yn bwysig. Gobeithiwn y bydd darparu’r gofod newydd hwn i fyfyrwyr yn dod ag ymdeimlad o berthyn i fyfyrwyr, yn adeiladu cymunedau dysgu ystyrlon ac yn meithrin cydweithrediad rhwng myfyrwyr ar y campws.

Mae’r ystafell gyffredin wedi’i lleoli ar lawr gwaelod adeilad Neuadd Meirionnydd, y gellir cael mynediad iddi drwy’r lolfa IV neu’r brif fynedfa. Bydd y gofod ar agor o 7:30yb - 10yh bob dydd a bydd angen cerdyn adnabod myfyriwr i gael mynediad ar ôl 4yh.
