Llongyfarchiadau to all our talented student competitors who took part in the 2025 Welsh Varsity tournament, you should all be very proud of your performance the hard work that led up to today.
More than 10,000 student spectators came to cheer as Team Cardiff battled Swansea for the coveted Varsity shield and Rugby cup over the last week.
Varsity is still one of the largest student sporting events in the UK and an unforgettable rite of passage for all our students, whether they’re competing or cheering from the stands. This year’s tournament returned to the capital, seeing Cardiff take on the Swans on our home ground. As always, there was an incredible atmosphere and we’d like to say a big thank you to our Team Cardiff supporters who have rallied the teams since the tournament began on the 5th April. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
Georgia, your VP Sports and AU President, is thrilled with the achievements of Tim Caerdydd for winning the shield AND cup and to all our supporters that cheered them on!
“What an amazing day of sporting activity for both Cardiff University and Swansea University! I am so proud of all the hard work and dedication our athletes have put in and overwhelmed with the amount of support here today. Varsity is always the most anticipated event of the year for students where many memories are made. It’s a great opportunity for both coming together as a community and for showcasing the best of university sport."
Men’s rugby captain, Tom Caple, led an incredible performance against Swansea:
“Everyone's worked so hard over the last few weeks leading up to Varsity so to come out with the win at Principality was incredible and a great way to end the season."
Women’s captain, Claudia Harrison, is super proud of her teammates and their efforts this season:
“Everyone in the club has worked so hard this season, coaches, physios, committee, players on the pitch and off the pitch. Winning Varsity is a showcase of all we have achieved this year and a brilliant way to end the season. Four Welsh Varsity wins in a row is pretty special.”
Welsh Varsity provides an opportunity for the whole student community to come together and celebrate the diversity in student sport at Cardiff University. From football to fencing, water polo to ultimate frisbee and triathlon to tennis, the Welsh Varsity tournament represents the culmination of a year of hard work and preparation from all our athletes.
2025 has been a strong year for Team Cardiff, something we hope to see for many years to come.

Llongyfarchiadau i’n holl fyfyrwyr talentog a gymerodd rhan yn nhwrnamaint Varsity Cymru 2025, dylech fod yn falch iawn o’ch perfformiad a’ch holl waith caled cyn y diwrnod mawr.
Daeth mwy na 10,000 o fyfyrwyr i gefnogi wrth i Dîm Caerdydd brwydro yn erbyn Abertawe am darian a chwpan Varsity dros yr wythnos ddiwethaf.
Varsity yw un o’r digwyddiadau chwaraeon myfyrwyr mwyaf yn y DU ac mae’n brofiad bythgofiadwy i’n holl fyfyrwyr, boed os ydynt yn cystadlu neu’n cefnogi o’r ochrau. Gwnaeth twrnamaint eleni ddychwelyd i’r brifddinas, wrth i Gaerdydd herio’r Elyrch ar ein tir ni. Fel bob tro, roedd awyrgylch anhygoel, a hoffem ddweud diolch enfawr i holl gefnogwyr Tîm Caerdydd a fu allan yn dathlu ein timau ers i’r twrnamaint ddechrau ar y 5ed o Ebrill. Gobeithio gwnaethoch fwynhau cymaint â ni.
Mae Georgia eich IL Chwaraeon a Llywydd yr UA, yn falch iawn o gyflawniadau Tîm Caerdydd, a’n holl gefnogwyr, wrth i ni ennill y darian a’r cwpan!
“Am ddiwrnod anhygoel o chwaraeon myfyrwyr i Brifysgol Caerdydd a Phrifysgol Abertawe! Rwy’n falch iawn o holl waith caled ac ymroddiad ein hathletwyr ac roeddwn wedi fy syfrdanu gan y gefnogaeth heddiw. Varsity yw un o ddigwyddiadau mwyaf y flwyddyn i fyfyrwyr gydag atgofion bythgofiadwy’n cael eu creu. Mae’n gyfle gwych i ddod ynghyd fel cymuned ac arddangos y gorau o chwaraeon myfyrwyr.”
Gwnaeth capten tîm rygbi’r dynion, Tom Caple, arwain perfformiad anhygoel yn erbyn Abertawe:
“Mae pawb wedi gweithio mor galed dros yr wythnosau diwethaf felly roedd ennill yn Stadiwm y Principality yn anhygoel a’n ffordd wych o orffen y tymor.”
Mae capten tîm rygbi’r menywod, Claudia Harrison, yn falch iawn o’i chyd-chwaraewyr a’u hymdrechion tymor yma:
“Mae pawb yn y clwb wedi gweithio mor galed tymor yma, hyfforddwyr, ffisios, y pwyllgor, a chwaraewyr ar ac oddi ar y cae. Mae ennill Varsity yn dangos faint rydym wedi’i gyflawni eleni ac mae’n ffordd anhygoel o orffen y tymor. Mae 4 buddugoliaeth Varsity Cymru yn olynol yn eithaf arbennig.”
Mae Varsity Cymru yn gyfle i’r gymuned fyfyrwyr ddod ynghyd a dathlu amrywiaeth chwaraeon myfyrwyr ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. O bêl-droed i ddringo, polo dŵr i ffrisbi, a triathlon i denis, twrnamaint Varsity Cymru yw uchafbwynt blwyddyn o waith caled a pharatoi gan ein holl athletwyr.
Mae 2025 wedi bod yn flwyddyn gref i Dîm Caerdydd, a gobeithiwn weld hyn yn parhau am flynyddoedd i ddod.
