If you have any questions or fancy giving rugby a try please contact any of the Committee Members or our social media accounts.
Rugby is a brilliant way to get fit, make new friends and play an exciting fast-paced and rapidly growing game. And most importantly, both on and off the pitch, have a lot of fun.
Ladies’ rugby is one of the fastest developing sports in the UK – so now is the time to join. As a fresher it's natural to feel intimidated in coming down to training or join the team, especially if your friends aren't interested in rugby. But don't worry, many of us only started playing rugby when we joined the university and have been in your shoes. With the new seconds team underway, this is a good opportunity to develop your skills in a chilled out environment. Commitment to the team will help you progress; and before long, you too will be representing the university in BUCS matches on a Wednesday afternoon. We, of course, also welcome experienced players, with members of the current squad having played regional standard or higher rugby.
Make sure you join the Facebook group Cardiff University Ladies Rugby Club for all the latest news; as well as our other social media platforms, provided to the left.
What We Do
As a club, we have training three times a week at Talybont 3G (Tuesday and Friday evening) and the Fitness and Conditioning Centre (Friday morning). Weekly BUCS matches take place on Wednesday afternoons, with home games taking place at Llanrumney playing fields. And not to forget the very important weekly socials.
Obviously COVID-19 has thrown a spanner in the works however, we are constantly updating our risk assessments to reflect the most up to date guidance.
We compete in BUCS Premier South division and finished 1st in the BUCS Western 1A division in the 2018/19 season as well as 1st in the Premier South devision 2019/20.
The biggest highlight of the year is the annual Welsh Varsity match against Swansea University. Cardiff last hosted Welsh Varsity in 2019, where we had the honour of playing at the Principality Stadium.
We are also one of the most social clubs in the AU and have entertaining socials every Wednesday night. In the past, we have had a diverse range of social themes including the 90s, centurion, twisted Disney and Noah’s ark
We also have Christmas Dinner, Winter Ball, End of Season Dinner (including End of Year awards) and the annual pub golf – all nights that are not to be missed!
Our annual tour, during the Easter break, has brought Cardiff University Ladies RFC to Italy, Newquay, Amsterdam, Dublin and Mallorca in recent years and always proves to be one of the most enjoyable and most memorable events of the year. What goes on tour stays on tour!
For the 2020/21 season, we are pleased to welcome CPS and the TAF as our sponsors for our first team, with our second team sponsorship talks well underway.
If you wish to become a club member, the cost is £65 for the year along with a further £20 for membership to the Athletic Union . The membership fee covers the cost of league entry, insurance, travel to and from BUCS matches as well as covering the costs of coaching, training facilities, referees, equipment, socials and safety measures.
Refunds are only available to members that feel dissatisfied from the services provided or those who have been dismissed unfairly from a team. This dissatisfaction must be presented to the committee where they will deliberate and make a final decision.
