Welcome to Cardiff University Rifle Club!
Cardiff University Rifle Club caters for all abilities, we have members who had never picked up a rifle before uni and some international medallists! Rifle shooting is a very social sport and a great way to meet new people in Cardiff and in other universities. No gun license or equipment is required as we have everything you need to get started or continue to develop in the sport. Everyone is welcome!
We train .22 every Saturday at Penarth Rifle Club. A minibus leaves from outside the SU by magic wrap at 1030 and 1230 with extra trips when necessary, and we are usually back in Cardiff by 1630/1700. We have an expert coaching team, including a former Welsh National Squad coach, which allows us to train everyone to a high level. Each week we pick a different element of technique to work on and either our coach or more experienced members run a short workshop and offer support to shooters. From setting up in a jacket and sling, to breathing technique and triggering, you will learn everything you need to shoot those 10s!! On Wednesdays 1400-1700 we shoot air rifle at Sport Wales National Centre, this is a great time to practice technique using cheaper ammunition, before putting it into practice on the .22 range.
The past few years have been really successful for CURC, in 2017/18 we were the second most successful university rifle club in Britain! We are also one of the most successful BUCS scoring clubs in Cardiff Uni! We enter BUCS indoors and the Welsh Indoor Championships (both .22LR at 25 yards), BUCS outdoors (.22LR at 50 metres and 100 yards), and the BUCS fullbore competition, where we shoot .762 from 300 up to 1000 yards! The BUCS indoor competition is shot in divisions, so it is an ideal way for anyone to shoot competitively for the first time as you will always be shooting against people of a similar level to you. Where there are additional competitions that our members want to enter we also strive to enter these too. With such a range of competitions throughout the year, everyone has the chance to represent Cardiff University, whatever your experience!
Of course any club wouldn't be complete without a wonderful social calendar. We have a range of boozy and non-alcoholic socials throughout the year, including the legendary committee house crawl, cinema trips, fancy dress club nights, joint socials with other clubs, ice skating and more! The christmas and end of year meals are always great fun too.
Always without a doubt one of the highlights of the year!! Every year in spring semester we travel to Bisley Shooting Ground in Surrey for a wild weekend of rifle club fun. With distances from 100 to 700 yards, we shoot a range of rifles including AR-15s, Lee Enfields and some of our club's own fullbore rifles. This is a great chance to try something new and embrace the sport further.

After this the only additional costs are £1 for each session you attend, .22 ammunition, and any trips away. If you know you will attend the majority of sessions each semester, then instead of paying £1 per session you can purchase a semester package, which will save you about 1/3 of the cost. Membership refunds are only available to those who have not made any use of their membership (e.g. have not attended a single session).
