Men's Hockey Club

The hockey club is an intimate club with a friendly environment and a tradition of success. We have 4 well-integrated men’s teams and a new social team that caters for a range of capabilities from casual to international standard, training and playing twice a week in the British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) League and various weekend leagues.
At the end of the 2019/20 season, the second team won the legendary treble (Saturday league, BUCS league and the BUCS cup)!
In the 2021/22 season, the 2nd team reached the Big BUCS Final, and while unfortunately taking a narrow defeat in the final, still had a season to be proud of. In the same season, the return of The Welsh Varsity saw the 1st team claim a victory over fierce rivals Swansea, helping Cardiff bring home the Varsity Shield yet again.
The 2023/2024 season saw the 1st team win the BUCS South Premier, sadly missing out on promotion after a tightly fought play-offs. And a 4-1 win against Swansea in the Varsity made it 3 from 3 since Covid. Meanwhile, the 2nd team prevailed in the Welsh Cup after dispatching Whitchurch.
The Social Side:
We have an eventful and varied social calendar with post-match socials every Wednesday come rain or shine, win or lose. While we play hard to win on the pitch, we know that a thriving social scene is just as if not more important.
Our weekly socials happen without fail and with a great atmosphere. Added to this, we have the tradition of wearing “ones” to these socials – smart casual dress with our distinct hockey tie, creating a sense of identity. Unique events include the Halloween and Christmas Socials, a black-tie ball and a brilliant end-of-season tour over the summer (to name only a few!).
Crucial to all this, our social events take place in conjunction with the Womens Hockey Club, creating a fantastic atmosphere and making us the largest and most social sports club at Cardiff University!
We are a very open bunch and welcome all corners of life, from all standards. If you have any questions then don't hesitate to contact the club President or the relevant captain!
This year we have chosen MOVEMBER to be our chosen charity to support and will be hosting various socials and quizzes to help raise money.
