Ladies' Cricket Club

Develop your cricketing ability and be part of an active, friendly sports team with the Cardiff University Ladies' Cricket Club.

In CULCC, all abilities are welcome! Whether you regularly take wickets at your local club or have never held a cricket bat in you life. New to the game? You will have the opportunity to learn the sport and be part of an inclusive team, making some great friends along the way! Experienced players will be able to get regular practice in with great cricketers and develop their skills even further.

We look forward to welcoming new and existing Cardiff University students this year. We will be at the sports fair on the 27th and 28th September and there will be a virtual event the following week if you are unable to make the sports fair. We will have two Give It A Go events on the 30th Septmber and 2nd October to give you a taste of cricket and meet the current members. After that, regular training and socials will commence.

Twice weekly training aims to improve cricket ability as well as general fitness. It includes a variety of cricket-orientated fitness exercises, fielding drills, and batting/bowling practice in the nets. All training will be at Talybont Sports Centre South Hall 6 or at outdoor areas nearby - players who want to get the most out of the club should try to attend every session! The times below are our regular training sessions:

Friday 5:30pm-7:30pm: usually a cricket-oriented fitness session

Sunday 4:00pm-5:30pm: usually cricket skills or nets

We participate in the BUCS indoor and outdoor leagues, playing matches at SWALEC in the Autumn and the Vale cricket ground over Summer. Competitions against other university women's cricket teams allow us to strengthen ourselves as players and build us up as a club. We consistently play well in both leagues, having our first successful outdoor season in 2018 at our home ground of Vale CC. We hope to keep that up this year!

Not only are we committed to the sport aspect of cricket, but also the social side. Our social secretaries have some exciting socials planned, that will help everyone get to know each other. Frequent non-alcoholic socials are planned, ensuring that there is something for everyone to enjoy. Watching international women's games at the local is one of our most popular events as it really brings the team together, especially when our team wins!

Fun Fact-> the current England women's cricket team captain, Heather Knight, studied at Cardiff University!

As a team, we love engaging in fundraising activities for incredibly worthwhile causes, such as Disastors Appeal for Ukraine and The Survivors Trust. In 2022 the team hiked from Castell Coch to Caerphilly Castle in cricket pads and for the 2021 charity event we wanted to raise awareness and fundraise for the 97% of young women who have been sexually harrassed in public, so we ran 97 miles in a week and raised over £1000! Both these events went on to win the Cardiff University Charity Event of the year! CULCC also partake in the 12 days of Christmas food bank challenge, where we help support those in need in Cardiff by donating an item a day leading up to Christmas.
