We’re Cardiff Marrow, the student branch of our parent charity Anthony Nolan.
Throughout the year, we run clinics, signing people onto the stem cell register via cheek swabs. At our recruitment events our trained volunteers raise awareness about bone marrow donation, counsel people who want to join the register, help with the process of collecting information and swabs and answer any questions.
People with leukaemia and other blood cancers often need a bone marrow transplant as a last attempt at saving their life. However, 70% of people need an unrelated donor, and as bone marrow is very specific, it is very difficult to find a match. One person may only have one match in the whole world! The more people we add to the register the more lives can be saved!!
