We’re Cardiff University Healthcare Music Society; a fun and relaxed musical society for anyone interested in singing in a choir or playing in an orchestra. We rehearse at times that suit healthcare students but we are open to anyone, on any course!
Cardiff Healthcare Music Society (HMS) was founded in 2009 and is going strong 12 years later, bringing together students who want to enjoy performing music to a high standard in a relaxed atmosphere. The ensembles play and perform a combination of pop, film themes and classical pieces such as The Marriage of Figaro, Phantom of the Opera, 1812 overture, Viva la Vida, Disney medleys, ABBA and many more! We have even performed pieces written specifically for us!
We have two main ensembles, which both rehearse in the University Hospital Wales Chaplaincy (B5). The orchestra meets on a Tuesday at 7pm and the choir meets on a Thursday at 7pm. Rehearsals last from 7-9pm, with plenty of time for cake and a catch up along the way. There is no audition process, just turn up with your instrument and stand and join in!
As well as rehearsing and performing we enjoy society socials, from grabbing a drink after rehearsals to charity quizzes and film nights! In particular, the Christmas meal is always a highlight.
Despite COVID, 2021-2022 is geared up to be another exciting year, with more performances and opportunities to raise even more money for charity!
