Broadway Dance Society
Welcome to Broadway Dance Society! The only society at Cardiff University to offer classes in Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Street, Musical Theatre, Lyrical and Irish, at levels ranging from Novice to Advanced. We cater for everyone at Broadway!
Novice
Our novice classes are structured for people who have little to no dance experience. We offer classes in novice ballet, tap and jazz styles.
Intermediate
Intermediate classes are for those who feel they aren't quite at the technique level of an advanced class but still love the performance aspect. Please see our information pack which included further details about level recommendations.
Advanced
Advanced classes are designed for people who have a lot of dance experience. These classes are fast paced but thoroughly enjoyable! Please see our information pack which included further details about level recommendations.
Memberships
Membership of Broadway Dance is £20 per academic year **non-refundable** (plus the Societies guild fee). Our weekly class timetable will be posted on our private Facebook page. The first two weeks of classes are pay-as-you-go, £4 for non-members, and £2 for members per class, these can be purchased on our SU webpage after the Fresher's Fair. Following these weeks, the classes will require a block semester fee per class for the whole semester. These can be purchased on our Students' Union webpage. Non-students are also welcome to join Broadway, they just need to contact the Treasurer or President to complete an associate membership form.
Showcase
Our lessons work towards our annual showcase which will be in March 2027, where we will put on a matinee and an evening performance. We will also be offering chances to perform on several other occasions throughout the year in University events such as the Winter and Spring Showcases. Please note each semester class will be a different piece of choreography except our novice classes, which will be taught a single routine across both semesters!
Competition Teams
Following last year's amazing success, we will once again be holding auditions for our competition teams at the beginning of this year. We will have teams at both intermediate and advanced levels competing in ballet, jazz and tap, an intermediate street team and a wildcard team. We will be travelling all over England and Wales to compete, as well as hosting our very own competition (coming in March 2027)!
Events
We host a range of exciting events including summer and winter balls, CU on the Dance floor and Tour!
Our annual balls are a great way to celebrate our society successes and enjoy time with your friends.
CU on the Dancefloor is a recent charity event featuring Cardiff University dance societies and sports teams! In previous years we have raised thousands of pounds to important causes and we cannot wait for the event to make its return for a third consecutive year!
We also offer the opportunity to visit another country with the society! Our tour location will be announced closer to the time and usually takes place around the Easter holidays.
GIAG
At the beginning of the year we will be holding a Give It A Go event so new members can meet the committee and try our different classes. This will be a good chance to discover new styles of dance, meet a few of the teachers, and decide which classes are best suited to you. Please book your ticket in advance.
Socials
As well as coming along to lessons, Broadway is a brilliant social opportunity, where you can meet like-minded students. We hold regular Broadway socials, which vary in nature from themed nights out to dance workshops, theatre trips and DVD nights! Come along to our first social of the year - details coming very soon! If you are a new member or thinking of joining the society, we are preparing for our first Wednesday night SU social which will allow you to get to know everyone and quickly feel like part of the Broadway family!
We look forward to welcoming you into our society and meeting you very soon! Any questions, please feel free to contact one of the committee! Make sure you check out our Events page for photos from previous socials and performances!
