Allotment Society

The Cardiff University Allotment Sociey aims to provide enough bare earth for every student who wishes to join, Ideally on previously unused ground close to the centres of student population.

Our society will provide practical advice and experience which could benefit you for the rest of your life, reducing your living costs and impact on the environment. We also aim to create another way in which students can meet like-minded people to become friends with, an extremely important part of a successful degree. You’ll save money, make friends, learn something useful, get a sort of a bit fitter and feel like you’ve escaped the city for a few hours!

We are a fledgling society and are still learning how to provide the best support for students who grow food with us. There is lots of work to be done in getting our allotments up to scratch but I believe everyone should get out more than they put in in terms of food, knowledge and friendships. We will also be running various food-making-related courses such as chutney making, community garden design, cider making, possibly mushroom identification, and more to be confirmed.

We are in a true period of flux at the moment; we have just heard our union allotment will be built on in March. But! We still have an allotment at HEath campus, are acquiring new land and are beggining to invest our time and energy in new projects. We should soon have another community garden to concentrate our efforts on. Watch this space!

Drop by our (to be abandoned) allotment just below the front of the union on a sunday afternoon to have a look at this years progress. Access is via 46 park place, if you are facing main building outside the SU turn left, walk along the wall and take the next left (46 park place) and double back on yourself to walk towards the union steps, you can't miss us from there!
