We spoke to Luke, a volunteer with the Make a Smile project, about why he loves volunteering.

"Make a Smile involves volunteers dressing as well-known children’s characters to visit children’s wards and work with disability play services (Disney Princesses and superheroes are particularly popular). At these events we interact, play games, do sing-alongs etc.

When I personally volunteer I typically dress as Peter pan because he interacts equally well with boys and girls and it's very easy to play relevant games such as pirates and treasure hunting which is a lot of fun. He has the added bonus of being very similar to my normal personality.

There is no better moment than when a child sees their idol walk through the door. Seeing their face light up is fantastic. I believe that childhood is a vital period that all children deserve. It’s heart-breaking to know that some children affected by chronic illness or disability are forced to mature faster than usual so we try to give children the opportunity to enjoy a few carefree hours of their childhood, forgetting their affliction."

Cawsom sgwrs â Luke, gwirfoddolwr gyda phrosiect Gwneud Gwên, ynghylch pam mae ef wrth ei fodd yn gwirfoddoli.

“Mae Gwneud Gwên yn cynnwys gwirfoddolwyr yn gwisgo i fyny fel cymeriadau plant ac ymweld â wardiau plant a gweithio gyda gwasanaethau chwarae anabledd (Mae tywysogesau Disney ac arwyr yn boblogaidd iawn). Yn y digwyddiadau hyn rydym yn rhyngweithio, chwarae gemau, a chanu gyda’n gilydd ayyb.

Pan dwi’n gwirfoddoli dwi fel arfer yn gwisgo fel Peter Pan oherwydd mae ef yn gweithio yn dda ar gyfer merched a bechgyn ac mae’n hawdd chwarae gemau perthnasol megis môr-ladron a helfa drysor sy’n llawer o hwyl. Yn lwcus i mi, mae gennym bersonoliaethau tebyg hefyd.

Nid oes unrhyw foment gwell na phan mae plentyn yn gweld eu harwr yn cerdded drwy’r drws. Mae gweld y gwên yn llenwi eu hwynebau yn wych. Credaf fod plentyndod yn gyfnod hanfodol y mae holl blant yn ei haeddu. "Mae'n dorcalonnus gwybod bod rhai plant yn dioddef o salwch cronig neu anabledd sy’n gorfodi iddynt aeddfedu'n gynt nag arfer felly rydym yn ceisio rhoi cyfle i’r plant fwynhau ychydig oriau heb ofid."
