You asked us to campaign on academic issues, what does it mean for you?

Shwmae!

On Tuesday 7th November our sabbatical officer team went out to engage with you at the Cyber Café in the Psychology building and asked the question:

You asked us to campaign on academic issues, what does it mean for you?

With five different options as a response:

  • Greater Support from tutors and supervisors
  • Clearer, better organisation of your course/search
  • Better feedback on assignments, exams, and research
  • Teaching quality and support for teaching
  • Increased access to learning resources, study spaces, and research materials
  • Other comments

We asked you this question with the use of some tubes and ping-pong balls to cast your vote.

We will be campaigning on each of the issues listed, but we wanted to know your priority. The matter you asked us to focus on was providing Greater support from tutors and supervisors (56 people chose this option). The other options received these votes: Clearer, better organisation of your course/search (34), Better feedback on assignments, exams, and research (43), Teaching quality and support for teaching (25), Increased access to learning resources, study spaces, and research materials (18), and ‘other’ comments (5 comments that included: Better organised placements,  two comments noting that all of the options are important, options didn’t seem relevant to PGRs, and  more PGR wellbeing support).

"We’ve told you what we want, what are you going to do about Academic Interests?"

This research will be embedded within the students’ union’s lobbying efforts to make your experience better at Cardiff University!

However, if you can think of other ways we can better support your academic interests please get in touch.

As we go throughout the year we will do more of these events to talk to you about the issues that matter the most. We’ll bring an inflatable sofa, some sweets, all you need to do is come say ‘hi!’.

Democracy from Day One is a new project providing the students’ union more data and evidence to better support and represent you. Whether we’re using it as market research or campaigning data, it’s all anonymous!

Our next Democracy from Day One will be: 5th March
