CARDIFF UNIVERSITY NETBALL CLUB 2019/20
Cardiff University Netball Club have 6 teams who all compete in BUCS on a Wednesday, with the addition of two teams competing in the IMG this year. New members will be welcomed into a well-integrated and friendly club, with a professional and competitive view on all matches.
Full club training takes place at Talybont on Sunday evenings, which focuses on skills, drills and match practise. Fitness sessions take place on a Monday evening with our own personal fitness instructors, Matt Ward. On Monday mornings, the 1st and 2nd teams have strength and conditioning sessions, with strength and conditioning sessions taking place on Tuesday mornings for the 3rds, 4ths, 5ths and 6ths. Shooting practice also takes place on Tuesday mornings, which enable our shooters to get their stats as high as possible for future games. Friday morning training is dedicated time for the 1st and 2nd teams to ensure that players are being stretched to their full ability. Wednesdays define the Cardiff University Netball spirit, as all our teams have matches, which are followed by a club social.
Our weekly Wednesday socials guarantee to be the best night of your week! Our Social Secs, Abi Stamp and Lauren Neilson-Watts have many ideas in store such as the classic white T-shirt, the Christmas social and the occasional team T-shirt social - you may forget what it’s like to go out looking socially acceptable! Alongside the Wednesday socials, each team is encouraged to do team building activities, such as Escape Rooms, Trampoline Parks or Quiz Nights. We are also pleased to announce the introduction of 'social members' to ensure no one misses out on the social side of our club!
The Netball Club also has nights of sophistication – a Christmas Meal with some mid-season awards, end of year meal, The Christmas Charity Ball and the AU ball. On top of this there will be a few events held at Revs throughout the year, which is our sponsor for this season.
The netball tour is not to be missed! It can only be described as a whole week of Wednesdays, with themes every night! There is a day dedicated to matches against a variety of teams from across the UK. It promises to provide many unforgettable memories- bringing girls of the club closer together.
The club likes to do our own bit for charity too, with £150 raised through our Charity Ball for our very own club member Meg Styles who is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in support of The Children’s Society. For the past few years, the Christmas ball and a charity netball match has helped to raise money for the chosen charities. There are already plans in place to continue to raise money for charity as well as providing unforgettable memories for everyone involved.
The Fresher’s Fayre this year will be held on Monday 23th of September- this is your chance to come along, chat to the current Netballers about what an amazing club we are, ask any questions you want and to sign up to trials! Not forgetting Medics Fresher’s Fayre on Wednesday 25th September also.
‘Give it a Go’ is also a great opportunity for those who would like to get involved and experience what it is like being part of the club and play netball, so do not be worried if you have never played before! ‘Give it a Go’ will be held on Thursday 26thSeptember.
First Fresher’s Trials are due to be on Wednesday the 25th of September and with the second lot of trials taking place on Saturday the 28th of September. Those girls selected will be asked to trial again with the existing club members. Hope to see you there!
