Cardiff University Taekwon-Do Club (CUTKD) has been running and competing for 25 years, since it was founded by Master Matthews in 1998, and is THE most successful martial arts club on campus. Having retained the title of British University Champions, gaining over 250 medals in the past 3 years alone, and being ranked #1 in the league tables, success is what we're all about. We're also the only martial arts club on campus that regularly competes at local, national, and international competitions throughout the year, giving all of our members one of the best fighting competition experiences Cardiff has to offer.
Our Instructor Master Matthews, 7th Degree, is one of the top instructors in the UK having taught Taekwondo for 30 years and currently coaches the Welsh national team to compete in European and World Championships! Master Matthews has had a very successful Taekwondo career winning over 500 medals and trophies competing at national and international competitions, representing Wales and the UK all over the world. He has won multiple world and European championship titles and competed across a wide range of styles including ITF, WT, Karate Grand Slam, USA and Freestyle point sparring.
Come along to our classes to learn from one of the best instructors at any University martial arts club to start your Taekwondo journey. Ranging from complete novices to international standard black belts, our club is open to all and classes are tailored to suit your level - complete beginners are welcome! We train fitness, strength, stamina, agility, flexibility and of course skill - you won't find another club like us! We work hard and play hard too, with regular socials and fun weekends away.
We are an ITF (UKTA) club but welcome members from all associations and organisations, including WT, GTUK, and TAGB. We also attend WT competitions so there is an opportunity for all to compete. We also compete in the BUCS university competitions. In addition to being 10 years undefeated in varsity! The training and qualifications you gain with us are fully certified by the ITF (International Taekwondo Federation) and are recognised throughout the world!
Finally, not everyone in the club competes in competitions - many people come along purely for the outstanding fitness and social atmosphere - so don't worry if you're not the competitive type!
