Welcome to the Cardiff Hornets, Cardiff University’s own dodgeball club! We are quickly becoming a bigger and bigger member of the Welsh dodgeball community and welcome players of any ability to come play this awesome sport. With us, you have the opportunity to improve your game and yourself. We have an all-round focus on improving skills, tactical knowledge, and fitness in a friendly environment. Whether you’ve played before or simply want to try something new, there’s a place for you with the Hornets!
Socials
Throughout the year our social sec will be organising a number of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic socials to give our members the opportunity to get to know each other, outside of the training environment. Our socials will aim to help our members to relieve the stress from university life while helping to build the bonds that our team shares.
Competitive Play
We are a UKDBA affiliated team and, as such, we will be entering our team into tournament matches throughout the year. For the the first time we will also be entering two teams into regular tournament play, with one being specifically for women. We also have regular friendlies and exhibition matches with other teams in Wales (including Swansea University) and the South West. We also organise our own tournaments within the university and participate in tournaments organised by the AU and other clubs/societies. If game time is something that appeals to you, then you can be confident that we will accommodate you.
Training
We have weekly training sessions at the Talybont Sports Courts every Thursday 9-10.30pm. All you need is light athletic gear, a drink to stay hydrated, and knee pads would be advisable. Training is usually fairly informal and we will tailor them to your needs; however, in the run up to a game/tournament we may focus on other aspects of the game to makes sure the team is fully prepared.
A Word from the President
As the president of a fairly new club, we are determined to take this team as far as possible and make it the best we can for our members. We pledge to be active in steering the club to another, even more successful year and help cement solid foundations for the years to come. We want to see the club win competitions, qualify for the UK Championships and attain league play. It is our hope that in the years to come, as the sport grows, that people will speak of the Cardiff Hornets, their achievements and the players they produced. We are not building a club. We are building a legacy.
