Cardiff Skydiving Society

At Cardiff Skydiving Society we jump out of perfectly good aeroplanes for fun. From complete beginners to freefly ninjas, there is a place for everyone here!

Your first jump

Never skydived before? No problem!

There are two options for learning to skydive – Static Line or AFF (Accelerated Freefall). Upon completion of these courses you will be qualified to jump solo!

Or if you just want to experience the thrill of freefall then a tandem jump is the ideal choice. You will be strapped to a fully qualified instructor and fall from 15000ft.

Static Line

Static Line (also called Category System) is an affordable way to learn to skydive. You will start with a day of groundschool training and upon successful completion of this you will be cleared for your first jump. You will exit the plane at about 3500ft and a static line will automatically deploy your canopy for you which you will then fly and land yourself.

As you progress you will start to deploy your parachute yourself, jumping from increasingly higher altitudes, and eventually jumping from 15000ft. You will then learn freefall manoeuvres and in just 18 jumps you can get your A License, which will allow you to jump solo anywhere in the world!

Note: the number of jumps taken to qualify depends on the student’s ability.

Prices:

- Groundschool and first jump: £210
- Cat 2 - Cat 8 jumps: £40 each
- Qualified jump tickets: £22 each

Groundschool price includes:

- Day of groundschool training
- First jump
- Temporary BPA insurance
- Transport to and from Skydive Netheravon
- Accommodation for the weekend

Upon gaining your A License, you will then pay experienced skydiver prices for jump tickets (see 'Experienced Jumpers' for more information).

Details on how to sign up to a groundschool training course can be found at the bottom of this page.

AFF (Accelerated Freefall)

AFF is the fastest and easiest route to becoming a qualified skydiver. You will start with a day of groundschool and upon successful completion of this you will be cleared for your first jump. You will  start jumping from 15000ft with two fully qualified instructors holding onto you as you exit the plane, experiencing more than a minute of freefall before deploying, flying and landing your own parachute.

As you progress you will go down to only one instructor holding you as you exit, and then exiting without your instructor holding you at all. You will also be learning freefall manoeuvres throughout this progression. After successful completion of all 8 Levels you will then complete 10 consolidation jumps entirely on your own before being awarded your A License, which will allow you to jump solo anywhere in the world!

Prices:

- Groundschool and first jump: £360
- Level 2 - Level 3: £205 each
- Level 4 - Level 8: £145 each
- Consolidation (10 jumps): £40 each
- Qualified jump tickets: £22 each

Groundschool price includes:

- Day of groundschool training
- First jump
- Temporary BPA insurance
- Transport to and from Skydive Netheravon
- Accommodation for the weekend

Upon gaining your A License, you will then pay experienced skydiver prices for jump tickets (see 'Experienced Jumpers' for more information).

Details on how to sign up to a groundschool training course can be found at the bottom of this page.

Tandem Skydive

If you want to get a taste of the sport before committing to a solo jump course, or just want to experience the thrill of freefall, then a tandem skydive is the best option for you. You will get to jump from 15000ft which is the highest possible skydive without an oxygen supply. You will be strapped to a fully qualified instructor and will freefall at approximately 120mph for about a minute, before enjoying a 5 minute parachute ride back to the ground.

Price:

15000ft tandem jump: £270

This price includes transport to and from Skydive Netheravon.

If you want to do a tandem skydive with the society, please contact us via our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/CardiffSkydiving/ or email cardiffskydivingsociety@gmail.com.

Experienced jumpers

We offer a social forum for the skydiving community in Cardiff and the opportunity to travel to dropzones and events throughout the UK. Cardiff Skydiving Society is also an affiliated member of the BCPA, the UK's collegiate skydiving community for all university skydiving societies in the UK. The BCPA run year round events and socials including their annual tour, which has taken place in the USA, Dubai, and Spain, and an indoor skydiving trip. Other BCPA events take place at dropzones around the country and offer the opportunity to meet and socialise with like-minded individuals.

Experienced skydivers can join our regular weekend trips to our home dropzone for a weekend of skydiving and socialising with other university societies and skydivers on the DZ.

Prices:

Jump ticket: £22

Jump ticket with kit hire: £40

Dropzone trips

As a society we will be running regular weekend trips to Skydive Netheravon for student skydivers and experienced jumpers. There will be plenty of other skydivers from different university societies on the dropzone, which means plenty of people to socialise and have fun with!

The dropzone has a bunkhouse available to stay in for £5 per night. For students traveling with the society to the dropzone for the weekend, there will be a small additional cost to cover fuel.
