Cardiff Medics First Responders

Cardiff Medics First Responders are a group of around 40 medical students from years 3-5 volunteering with the Welsh Ambulance Service all year round to provide pre-hospital care to unwell and injured people.

Our volunteers are trained by the Welsh Ambulance Service (WAST) as Community First Responders (CFRs) to assess patients, administer first aid, oxygen therapy, analgesia, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of defibrillators. Our CFRs go on shift in pairs and attend 999 calls, where they assess and treat patients then handover to the ambulance crew or a clinical hub.

We train around 25 new responders every year and we pride ourselves on having a friendly, supportive community where you can meet like-minded people.
