Cardiff Medics First Responders are a group of around 60 medical students from years 3-5 volunteering with the Welsh Ambulance Service all year round to provide pre-hospital care to unwell and injured people.
Our volunteers are trained by the Welsh Ambulance Service as Community First Responders (CFRs) to administer basic first aid skills, oxygen therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator. Our CFRs go on shift in pairs and attend 999 calls, where they assess and treat patients and then handover to the attending ambulance crew.
We train around 25 new responders every year and we pride ourselves on having a friendly, supportive community where you can meet like-minded people.
