works to represent students’ ethical and environmental interests and campaigns on any relevant issues.

Hi everyone! My name is Nia and I'll be your Ethical and Environmental Officer this year. I am 20 years old and in my third year studying Environmental Geography at the school of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

I'm involved in multiple environmental campaigns within and outside university. Outside of studying I try my best to fit as much climbing, pole sport and writing for our student newspaper Gair Rhydd as much as possible!

I am from a small town called Blackwood about 40 minutes North of Cardiff, where I studied geography, maths & chemistry at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni. Up until 18 I studied completely through the medium of Welsh making me a fluent Welsh speaker.

I can't wait to get stuck into my role as officer this year. I feel like our union already has some pretty great policies and I can't wait to develop them further and introduce some new ideas into the mix.

I am passionate about ethical and environmental topics and how these can have a huge effect on our day to day lives as students. During my time here at Cardiff I have submitted a motion to remove plastic straws from the Union, which was successful, set up a movement encouraging local businesses to cut down on their single use plastic pollution and represent the student body both as an academic representative and student ambassador.

My priorities for this year include:

  • Reduce plastic waste as much as possible throughout CUSU and Cardiff University
  • Roll out a food waste scheme across all University residences
  • Improve CUSU's and Cardiff University's impact on local biodiversity
  • Continue to ensure free speech on campus and promote the right to speak up without fear of unfair consequence
