Following reports of serious misconduct, Cardiff Students’ Union has concluded a full investigation and appeal process into the Men’s Cricket Club.
The investigation found clear evidence that activity associated with the Club fell well below the standards expected of Students’ Union members. These behaviours were inconsistent with our Code of Conduct, breached explicit guidance that had been repeatedly communicated to the Club Committee in advance, and raised significant concerns around student safety and welfare.
As a result, and in line with our disciplinary policies, the Men’s Cricket Club has been suspended for the remainder of the current academic year. Committee members responsible for the Club at the time of the incident will no longer be permitted to represent Cardiff University in cricket.
Our approach is guided by a clear duty of care to students and a zero-tolerance position on initiation-type behaviour. While we want students to take part in sport and social activity, we will act where evidence shows our expectations have not been met to ensure activity is run responsibly.
For students who were not involved, we are taking steps to establish a cricket programme administered directly by the Students’ Union. This activity will be delivered with clear expectations around behaviour and participants will be expected to engage with externally facilitated positive social culture sessions. The focus will be on participation in sport within a safe, supervised and values-led framework.
Looking ahead, the Students’ Union will consider applications from students to establish a men’s cricket club in a future academic year. Any application will be subject to robust scrutiny and must clearly demonstrate safe leadership, a positive club culture, and full alignment with the Union’s expectations and standards of behaviour.
We are also writing directly to all sports clubs and Athletic Union members to reiterate responsibilities, clarify expectations, and reinforce the standards of behaviour required of anyone representing the Students’ Union or the wider University.

Any student who is unsure about how to raise a concern, or would like support in doing so, can be supported by the Students’ Union Advice team. They can talk things through, explain options, and support students to raise a concern in a way that feels right for them.

Canfu’r ymchwiliad dystiolaeth glir bod gweithgarwch sy’n gysylltiedig â’r Clwb ymhell islaw’r safonau a ddisgwylir gan aelodau Undeb y Myfyrwyr. Roedd yr ymddygiadau hyn yn anghyson â’n Cod Ymddygiad, yn torri canllawiau penodol a oedd wedi cael eu cyfathrebu dro ar ôl tro gyda Phwyllgor y Clwb ymlaen llaw, ac yn codi pryderon sylweddol ynghylch diogelwch a lles myfyrwyr.
O ganlyniad, ac yn unol â'n polisïau disgyblu, mae Clwb Criced y Dynion wedi'i wahardd am weddill y flwyddyn academaidd bresennol. Ni fydd aelodau'r pwyllgor a oedd yn gyfrifol am y Clwb ar adeg y digwyddiad yn cael caniatâd i gynrychioli Prifysgol Caerdydd mewn criced mwyach.

Bydd y gweithgaredd hwn yn cael ei gynnal gyda disgwyliadau clir ynghylch ymddygiad, a bydd disgwyl i gyfranogwyr gymryd rhan mewn sesiynau diwylliant cymdeithasol cadarnhaol a fydd yn cael eu darparu gan sefydliad allanol. Y ffocws fydd cymryd rhan mewn chwaraeon o fewn fframwaith diogel, wedi’i oruchwylio ac sy’n cael ei arwain gan werthoedd.
Gan edrych i’r dyfodol, bydd Undeb y Myfyrwyr yn ystyried ceisiadau gan fyfyrwyr i sefydlu clwb criced dynion mewn blwyddyn academaidd yn y dyfodol. Bydd unrhyw gais yn destun craffu trylwyr a rhaid iddo ddangos arweinyddiaeth ddiogel, diwylliant clwb cadarnhaol, a chydymffurfiaeth lwyr â disgwyliadau a safonau ymddygiad yr Undeb.
Rydym hefyd yn ysgrifennu'n uniongyrchol at bob clwb chwaraeon ac aelodau'r Undeb Athletau i ail-bwysleisio cyfrifoldebau, egluro disgwyliadau, ac atgyfnerthu'r safonau ymddygiad sy'n ofynnol gan unrhyw un sy'n cynrychioli Undeb y Myfyrwyr neu'r Brifysgol ehangach.
Gall unrhyw un sydd â phryderon ynghylch ymddygiad clwb chwaraeon neu ei aelodau gysylltu ag Undeb y Myfyrwyr drwy [email protected], neu godi pryderon gyda'r Brifysgol drwy'r offeryn Adrodd a Chymorth. Gall unrhyw fyfyriwr sy'n ansicr ynghylch sut i godi pryder, neu a fyddai'n hoffi cael cymorth i wneud hynny, gael cymorth gan dîm Cyngor Undeb y Myfyrwyr. Bydd y tîm yn gallu trafod y sefyllfa, egluro opsiynau, a chefnogi myfyrwyr i godi pryder mewn ffordd sy'n teimlo'n iawn iddyn nhw.
