Bryn Y Deryn Classroom Assistants
This project is ideal for gaining experience in a classroom, or for those who are thinking of doing a PGCE. Volunteering as an in-class assistant, you will gain
insight into a classroom environment in a specialist (BESD – behavioural, emotional social difficulties) setting, the Key Stage 4 curriculum, one to one support
and special needs support. Minimum requirement of half day per week but they would welcome more if you could do it!
There will be an initial placement visit at 13:00 on Wed 24th October and the compulsory project training will take place on the afternoon of Wed 14th Nov so first round applications need to be in by Friday 12th October.

Confident Futures

A mentoring scheme designed to encourage young people aged 14-19 in care to develop their skills and access Higher Education. Volunteers meet once a fortnight to befriend, inspire and help young people discover their potential and reach their goals. Volunteers will be asked to mentor the young people and help to run sessions and ice breakers to break down some of the traditional barriers to Higher Education experienced by this group. This is a partnership project with Cardiff University’s Widening Participation team.
When: Alternate Tuesdays 5.30pm – 7.30pm

Discovery

A mentoring scheme encouraging young people aged 14-19 with Asperger’s Syndrome to develop their skills and confidence and to access Higher Educations courses. We are looking for volunteers who are patient, good listeners, and enthusiastic about university. This is a partnership project with Cardiff University's Widening Participation Team. Volunteers will be asked to mentor the young people and help to run sessions and ice breakers to break down some of the traditional barriers to Higher Education experienced by this group.

EYST Tuition Club (E.T.C)
This is a partnership project with the Ethnic Youth Support Team. Volunteers will provide one to one tutoring for young people aged 10-18 to empower them through education. Tutor Maths, English, and Science in a fully supervised, mutually beneficial environment, for one or two hours per week.
When: Mondays & Wednesdays 5pm – 7pm
Where: Butetown and Grangetown

GCSE Maths/English/Science

A mentoring scheme, funded by First Campus, encouraging GCSE-aged young people to increase their academic attainment at school so that they can progress to Further and Higher Education. We are looking for volunteers who have A-levels in English, Maths or Science subjects who are also interested in teaching as a career. If you would like to be considered for the maths project, for example, then you must hold a maths A-level as a minimum, and priority may be given to those that study maths at degree level. This is a partnership project with Cardiff University's Widening Participation Team and First Campus. Volunteers will be asked to mentor the young people in schools in and around South East Wales, and full training will be given along the way.
When: Every Wednesday afternoon or Friday morning, times variable

MFL Student Mentoring Project
Do you speak more than one language? Do you like working with young people? Do you think openness to other cultures is important? Then this project is for you!
This project is perfect for students looking for experience working with young people. The aim of the project is to raise appetite for language learning amongst Year 9 pupils across Wales by increasing curiosity in other languages, cultures and peoples through mentoring.
At this moment in time, it is more important than ever to share messages of inter-culturality and the benefits derived from international exchanges. If learning
languages is important to you, then this is the project for you! In addition, you will receive an amazing prize upon completion of your training, so what are you waiting for – get involved!

Ty Celyn Youth Club
A weekly youth club for teenagers and young adults with a variety of learning and physical disabilities. Student volunteers assist paid staff members and volunteers in a number of activities including arts and crafts, pool, baking and sports.

Young Entrepreneur Scheme
This is a partnership project with Hybu, a local Charity, who work with young people and local communities through programmes designed to enable
participants to value themselves and to be recognised as the incredible members of society they are. As a volunteer on the Young Entrepreneurs Scheme, you will work alongside local young people aged 16-18 to help and support them through a development programme in volunteering, leadership and entrepreneurial skills.
With your support they will deliver fun activities and events to children and families in disadvantaged communities across Cardiff. During your first semester, you will undergo Young Entrepreneur training yourself provided by Hybu, and then from February (after your exams in your second semester) you will start to deliver the programme of support to local young people.
This is a great project if you are thinking of going into teaching or working with children and young people, and will really develop your leadership skills which looks great on a CV! All volunteers on this project will be eligible to complete the Diploma of Professional Development in Leadership.
When: Thursdays 18:45-21:15 (plus various events throughout the year)
