Event Information
Come along and try traditional karate with Cardiff University Karate Club! Whether you've never stepped onto a dojo floor before, you're returning to karate after a break, or you already train in another style, everyone is welcome.
Our Traditional Karate & Kata session focuses on the foundations of karate. During the session you can expect to practise:
-
Line work – learning and improving fundamental techniques such as punches, blocks, kicks and stances.
-
Pad work and partner drills – applying techniques in a fun and controlled environment (where appropriate).
-
Kata – traditional sequences of movements ("forms") that help develop technique, balance, coordination and understanding of karate principles. We also focus on competition kata if this is something you are interested in.
No experience is needed, and instructors will guide you through everything at your own pace. If you're completely new to karate and would feel more comfortable learning alongside other beginners, we also run a Beginners-Only Give It A Go session specifically designed for those with no previous experience.
What to bring:
Whether you're looking to make new friends, learn a new skill, improve your fitness, or get back into training, we'd love to see you there!
Please note: Entry to this session is included with the Give It A Go ticket purchased through the Tuesday 3rd October - Traditional & Kata GIAG. No additional booking is required, please purchase your ticket through that page. If you are unable to find the page give us a message on Instagram @CardiffUniKarate or email us [email protected]
If you'd also like to try our Kumite (Sparring) Give It A Go sessions, be sure to purchase a ticket for those as well.
