Welcome to the biggest, craziest, most talked about event of your freshers week.
Get ready for an Icebreaker experience that is bigger and better than ever!
Over the last 16 years The Big Freshers Icebreaker has provided a right of passage between ordinary life and University for over 500,000 students... and now it's your turn. This is the most successful and well attended freshers event in UK history!
This is not just an event... It's a tradition! We sell out very far in advance every year, so please make sure to buy your ticket early. This is not your usual budget student night event, this is a high end production show that will live long in your memory!
We offer something everyone can enjoy, we work hard to make our event the most inclusive there is. Big parties and drinking might not be your thing but Icebreaker is all about making friends and being the standout night as you adjust to university life and enter adulthood!
Social Wristband Challenges & Icebreaker Competition:
Every ticket comes with an Icebreaker wristband which is collected on arrival. On each wristband there will be a list of social challenges to complete on the night with your new flatmates! We don't need to tell you how to make friends, but we certainly know how to mix things up and make them interesting

♿ Accessibility
Step Free Access – Y Plas has step-free access using the lift outside the Centre for Student Life.
Accessible Toilets – There is a step-free accessible toilet in Cwtch, locked with a RADAR key. Keys can be collected from the Welcome Centre. There are also toilets with and without urinals.
Emergency Evacuation – Evacuation procedures are in place to ensure your safety while taking your individual access requirements into account.
Quieter Spaces – Our Welcome Centre offers a quieter space for you to use, and additional seating is available throughout the venue.
🧑🤝🧑 Entry Policy
Strictly 18+, student ID required.
Advance tickets guarantee you entry until 23:00. After this time, tickets remain valid; however, entry will be subject to venue capacity.
Student guests are permitted – one guest per Cardiff University student. You must provide valid photo ID (passport or driving licence) and an alternative student ID card.

Y Plas is one of the largest Students' Union nightclubs in the UK, with the city's biggest and best club nights. We're proud that these events are a core part of the Cardiff student experience.
Ensuring students can have fun safely is fundamental to how we run every event. As a not-for-profit venue, we invest heavily in safety initiatives – from welfare spaces and trained staff to clear policies that prioritise inclusion and respect.
In return, we require our attendees to help keep themselves and others in the club safe by playing their part to keep the student community safe and ensuring at all times their behaviour in the club is in line with our Code of Practice.
