Forces Veterans
A veteran student is a current or ex-service person who has served a minimum of one day in the Armed Forces.
This also includes National Servicemen, Regulars and Reserves.
Dedicated support from Cardiff University
If you are a member of the armed forces, a veteran or a family member, dedicated support is available through
Together at Cardiff. The team can offer support with financial issues, housing and academic issues. Further

Support from the Student Advice Team
Student Advice are able to advise on all academic issues and offer specialist advice regarding housing.
Student Advice are also able to signpost to external agencies on a range of issues.

Where can I access Career advice?
The
Student Futures Team can provide support with career planning, job hunting recruitment and
work experience. Support is available for up to 3 years after Graduation.
Is there any financial support available?
Together at Cardiff will be able to advise in respect of the Armed Forces veteran Bursary and the
Armed
Forces Scholarship for students who have lost a military experienced parent.
The Money and Advice Team are also able to advise on Student Finance and tuition fees and can be
contacted on 029 22 51 88 88 or at [email protected].
The Money Support fund is available to all students who are experiencing financial hardship.
There is qualifying criteria that applicants will need to meet and further information can be
found here.
Can I live in University accommodation?
First year students are able to apply for University accommodation. When you move into
private accommodation in your second year you can apply to the Guarantor
Scheme for the University to act as a Guarantor if you do not have one.
Together at Cardiff may be able to support you in finding suitable accommodation.
I have a disability, is support available to me?
Yes, the University has a Student
Disability Team who can support students with access issues, applying for DSA
and implementing Reasonable Adjustments for assessments.
Where can I access support for my mental health and wellbeing?
The Counselling
and Wellbeing Team are able to offer face to face and online appointments,
group therapy and wellbeing resources. Further support may be available through Mind and C.A.L.L.
Mental Health Helpline for
Wales.
What support is available to me outside of Cardiff University?
There are many agencies that can offer support for forces veterans and the
Together at Cardiff Team may be able to signpost you for further support. These
agencies may include Help for
Heroes, SSAFA, the Royal
British Legion and The
Veterans Charity.
