About Us
Cardiff University LC is one of the largest mixed clubs at the University growing bigger and better every year. Each year we recruit more and more players ranging in skill from people who have never even heard of the sport to players who have represented their country.
The club has four teams who compete weekly in BUCS. Three women’s teams and one men’s team. We also have a development squad for men and women to help introduce new players to the basics of lacrosse as quickly as possible.
Our weekly training sessions are great fun, organised and run by captains and senior members, and are the best way to practice a new sport, meet new friends or brush up on some fitness. All our BUCS teams have two training sessions a week, plus a dedicated S&C programme provided by the AU. Our development squads currently train once a week but we’re looking to increase our Devs training for those who want to move up more quickly into BUCS teams.
The club also sends a men’s and women’s team to the BUCS Sixes Championship every year, as well as competing in the BUCS Knock-Out competitions. As well as sending social teams to non-BUCS tournaments like Bath 8s and Welsh Lacrosse Freshers Sixes.
Although BUCS is important to us, there is no single day more important than Welsh Varsity. Held every year in either Swansea or Cardiff, we take on Swansea with a men’s and women’s team to decide who the best team in Wales really is. Our three back-to-back victories with both our men and women’s side is starting to show who the best is…
The Social Side
With either team or whole club socials every week, there’s always something planned. Whether it’s a night out at our sponsor Misfits or off to lax corner in YOLO there’s always something planned that we promise no club can beat. As well as our regular socials, we also have sober socials and our annual Christmas and Summer balls with awards, food and drink… and sun if we’re lucky.
The club also takes part in a variety of charity events over the year, from Pink Week – supporting Breast Cancer Awareness – to Movember along with other charities like Mindstep. The club is proud of the support we’ve been able to give these charities over the past few years through donations, silly stunts and charity games.
