Ice Hockey Club
Welcome to the Cardiff Ice Hockey Club!
The Cardiff University Ice Hockey Club is represented by the Cardiff RedHawks Ice hockey team in the British University Ice Hockey Association.
The majority of the Redhawks are students at Cardiff University with other players studying and working at other universities including Cardiff Met, USW, Swansea, Aberystwyth, and Bristol.
Since we were founded in 2005, the Redhawks have grown both in number and strength. With the A team as well as the B team back in the cup this year, the Redhawks offer plenty of chances for players both in checking and non-checking to improve, compete, and create lasting friendships on and off the ice. We compete nationally in rinks across the UK.
Whether you're a beginner looking for a new sport to try, or an experienced player looking for some ice time, this is the club for you.
We train on Mondays from 11pm at the Vindico Arena and you are welcome to join at any point in the year! Spare kit is limited so make sure you get in touch with us!

FAQs:
- What if I've never skated before?
We take on complete beginners every year! There is room for everyone in the club and you will find others in the same boat. If you can we'd recommend trying a couple of public sessions at the vindico to get yourself more used to being on ice, but the club and coaching staff also offer help to new skaters. Keep in mind that everyone on the ice was a begginner once and throw yourself into it!
- What about kit?
The club has several kits that we are able to lend out on a short term basis. Longer term we can help you find places to get your own equipment. Facebook Marketplace is always a great place to look!
- Which membership should I buy?
If you want to play games for either team you should buy the competitive membership. If you are a beginner but are keen and attend regular training you may find yourself playing games a lot sooner than you think.
If you want to train with us weekly but not compete then you should get the second tier.
If you just want to have a go at the sport then go for the beginner tier.
Membership tiers:
Beginner Tier (£35) - Club membership, plus the cost of one training session for you to come and give hockey a go!
Non-competitive (£85) - Club membership, plus 4 weeks of training fees.
Competitive (£140) - Club membership, 4 weeks of training fees, and the cost of BUIHA registration for you to play in our A or B team fixtures throughout the year.
(note: BUIHA registration can be purchased separately for £60, should you change your mind about playing competetively later. However it cannot be refunded if you wish to stop playing competitively)
NEW MEMBERS: Please do not purchase a membership or training sessions without contacting us first.

REFUNDS: Please note that the competitive (BUIHA) membership is only partially refundable. Training refunds are available in exceptional circumstances. For information concerning refunds, please contact the Treasurer.
