Welcome to Book Club! We are a society based around the love of books!
If you want to be introduced to a rich variety of authors and genres, support literacy and educational charities, or want to meet new people at chill non-alcoholic socials, come along!
What do we do?
Weekly Meetings
In our weekly meetings, we discuss book-related topics, from favourite characters to worst film adaptations. Our discussions are based around topics that aren't too specific, so that everyone can get involved, and we ensure everyone gets a turn to chat about their thoughts on the topic.
We don't expect any of our members to read books regularly, nor do we ever expect any sort of commitment to these - feel free to show up as frequently or infrequently as you like (and if I still haven't convinced you, we always share our biscuits)!
Weekly Socials
Our typical day for a social is Saturday; we host events such as film nights, café chats, picnics, or walks around Cardiff. These are a great opportunity to chat to other members outside of the weekly meeting. If you'd like more examples of what we get up to, please feel free to check out our Instagram!
Reading Groups
These groups are more akin to a traditional 'Book Club', in that they read one book at a time over a number of weeks. These groups cover different genres, such as Romance, Fantasy, or even Horror!
Our committee members run some of these groups, but we heavily encourage members to start their own groups, even just for a specific author or series. By setting one up, you might even meet other people interested in a niche genre you like!
Social Outreach and Charity Events
As a Book Club, we have a vested interested in safeguarding the right of all people to have access to literature. You can expect our society members to pronote local authors and community events, as well as raising awareness for social issues that affect people's right to education.
When do we meet?
Our regular meetings are every Wednesday from 17:15-18:30. Our socials are usually on Saturdays, but sometimes we might move these to accomodate certain events.
What will I get with a membership?
Our membership is only £5 for the whole year, and gives you access to all of our events mentioned above, including our exciting Winter party and Spring ball You'll also be added to our email system, so you never miss any updates, as well as our WhatsApp community. Through this, you'll be able to chat to our members any time, and also suggest new books to the reading groups.
