A strong and active Board of Trustees is essential for us as we go forward to make CSU even better, to renew our success and continue to move forward.

About Cardiff Students’ Union (CSU)
The Students’ Union is a not for profit membership organisation independent of Cardiff University and provides a range of services for its members. These include academic representation, commercial operations and financial and welfare advice. CSU receives a grant from Cardiff University and generates other income from its commercial outlets such as venues, bars Jobshop and Cardiff Lettings. It is governed by a Board of Trustees and supported by a Senior Management Team, around 100 salaried staff and 300 student staff.
The CSU Board
Cardiff Students' Union governed by a Board of Trustees comprising elected Sabbatical officers, Student Trustees, and external non-student appointed Trustees. The Board is supported by a Senior Management Team, around 100 salaried staff and around 300 student staff.
The Board comprises 15 members and meets at least four times a year to carry out its business. Trustees are elected (or selected) via the criteria established within the Union’s Articles of Association to ensure both student leadership and the recruitment of professional expertise.
The Board currently comprises:
  • Seven Sabbatical Trustees
  • Three Student Trustees
  • Two University Nominated Trustees
  • Three External Trustees
Trustee Role Description
Key responsibilities
All Trustees have a duty to:
Ensure that CSU acts in accordance with its charitable objectives and governing documents
Ensure that CSU remains true to its Mission, Vision and Values
Help CSU achieve its objectives and benefit the members
Ensure that CSU complies with all relevant legislation and regulations
Ensure that CSU does not undertake activities that put its financial stability, members or reputation at risk
Work with other Trustees and staff in a constructive manner
Participate fully in Board meetings
Use their professional skills and experience to ensure that CSU is well run and efficient
Seek professional external advice where there may be a risk to the Union or where the Trustees may be in breach of their duties
Add value to the Board and the Union through generating ideas, challenging the status quo, broadening thinking, and supporting and promoting innovation and creativity.

Mae Undeb y Myfyrwyr yn sefydliad aelodaeth nid er elw, sy’n annibynnol o Brifysgol Caerdydd, ac sy’n darparu amrywiaeth o wasanaethau ar gyfer ei aelodau. Mae Undeb Myfyrwyr Caerdydd wedi’i lywodraethu gan Fwrdd Ymddiriedolwyr sy’n cynnwys Swyddogion Sabothol etholedig, Ymddiriedolwyr sy’n Fyfyrwyr, ac Ymddiriedolwyr Allanol. Mae’r Bwrdd wedi’i gefnogi gan Uwch Dîm Rheoli, tua 100 o staff llawn amser, a 300 o staff sy’n fyfyrwyr.
