Student Advice

The Student Advice Department provides free, confidential, independent and impartial guidance to the students of Cardiff University. The service empowers students with objective information, and explains options, so that they may make decisions in their own best interests. Our team also accompany and represent students through University disciplinary and regulatory procedures.

Student Advice also champions student welfare through the delivery of engaging prevention-based campaigns and a range of welfare-focused workshops. Our passionate team work closely with an enthusiastic and committed team of in-house student volunteers, and we provide support and development for larger networks of welfare-based Student Led Services.

Our experienced team works closely with elected Sabbatical Officers and University colleagues to ensure the voice of vulnerable students is heard and our clients' experiences inform policy creation and bring about positive change to the student experience.

Typical Roles

Student Advice and Welfare Coordinator

Our passionate Advice and Welfare Coordinators help, support and represent thousands of students a year, deliver preventative campaigns/workshops, support welfare-based volunteer networks, write web pages and blogs, and try to make the world just a little bit better!

Student Adviser

Our Student Advisers handle complex casework, representing students at University panels, and liaising with external organisations like the Office of the Independent Adjudicator. They represent students' interests in steering groups, provide consultation and training.

What we're looking for

The Student Advice and Welfare Team have a huge impact on the lives of students. Our work can be both incredibly demanding and hugely rewarding. People are our main resource and our dedicated team see both the worst and the best parts of the student experience. Our staff need to be excellent communicators, able to interpret complex information in a people-focused environment.
