Throughout October, Cardiff Students' Union has been full of exciting activities and events to engage and support our student community. Let’s take a closer look at the highlights of our activities during October 2023:
Celebrating Black History Month
Cardiff Students' Union kicked off the month with a strong commitment to celebrating Black History Month. The theme for this year's Black History Month was "Saluting our sisters," an homage to the often-overlooked contributions of black women throughout history. The goal was to shed light on the crucial role that black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities.
Throughout October, we utilised our platforms to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black people in Cardiff and around the world. Our aim was to promote inclusivity and strengthen our student community by recognising the significant impact of Black individuals. Importantly, we are dedicated to ensuring that Black history is represented and celebrated all year round.
To mark Black History Month, Cardiff University revealed a 14-meter mural on the Sports Centre building, serving as a tribute to the enduring strength of sisterhood and a recognition of the contributions of black women as the foundation of our community.
We engaged with 281 students through our Black History Month events, including book clubs, seminars, outreach stalls and Blackademia (a networking evening to celebrate BHM), with Afrogene, a free evening dedicated to celebrating African talent at Cardiff University, still to look forward to in November.
Housing & Wellbeing Fair
Another significant event in October was our free Housing & Wellbeing Fair. We were able to provide students with invaluable advice, guidance, and tips on housing in Cardiff, all while emphasising the importance of maintaining wellbeing. We were fortunate to have the support of various organisations, including the University's Advice & Money and Residence Life teams, housing charity Shelter Cymru, the Students' Union's Student Advice and Give it a Go teams, Cardiff Digs, and many more.
We are extremely happy to have engaged with 541 students at the Housing & Wellbeing Fair, and an additional 201 students at the Student Advice drop-in sessions throughout the week.
The Housing & Wellbeing Fair is a key component of the Students' Union Housing Campaign, which aims to assist students in finding and living in student housing. We are pleased to have the backing of the University's Advice & Money team and Residence Life teams.

Autumn Elections
The Autumn Elections were a resounding success, with an impressive 1115 students participating in the election process. This turnout exceeded our original target by more than double, and we look forward to continued engagement throughout November with our by-elections. We extend our gratitude to everyone who voted in the Autumn Elections 2023 and offer our congratulations to all successful candidates.
Pink Week
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), and Cardiff Students' Union joined in the global effort to raise awareness. Our Pink Week was dedicated to spreading the word about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, as well as the importance of regular self-examination. We encouraged hundreds of students to take charge of their health and seek support when needed during the week of October 23rd to 29th.
Through outreach stalls, craft evenings, glittering events at YOLO and even a dodgeball tournament, we managed to engage with 789 of you, with many signing up to CoppaFeel’s text reminder service to check your chest. It’s not too late to sign up either, follow the information on the Pink Week page.
Clean Up Cardiff
Clean Up Cardiff is just the beginning of a long-term commitment to improving our city's environment and the overall well-being of our students, with the help of our student volunteers.
During October, our incredible volunteers took to the streets armed with bin bags, cleaning up various areas of Cardiff. Our Clean Up Cardiff campaign not only emphasises the importance of a clean and pleasant environment but also focuses on the direct link between a clean city and the well-being of our student community.
Moving forward, Cardiff Students' Union is fully committed to making Clean Up Cardiff a regular and integral part of our student life. We believe that by working together, we can create a city that is not only conducive to learning but also enhances the overall university experience.

Trwy gydol mis Hydref bu Undeb Myfyrwyr Caerdydd llawn gweithgareddau a digwyddiadau cyffrous a wnaeth ddarparu mwynhad a chymorth i’n cymuned myfyrwyr. Dewch i ni edrych ar uchafbwyntiau ein gweithgareddau yn ystod Hydref 2023:
Dathlu Mis Hanes Pobl Dduon
Dechreuodd Undeb Myfyrwyr Caerdydd y mis gydag ymrwymiad cryf i ddathlu Mis Hanes Pobl Dduon. Thema Mis Hanes Pobl Dduon eleni oedd “Talu Teyrnged i’n Chwiorydd” - teyrnged i gyfraniadau menywod du trwy gydol hanes sy'n aml yn cael eu hanwybyddu. Y nod oedd codi ymwybyddiaeth o rôl hanfodol menywod du wrth lunio hanes, ysbrydoli newid ac adeiladu cymunedau.
Trwy gydol mis Hydref defnyddion ein platfformau i ddathlu llwyddiannau a chyfraniadau pobl du yng Nghaerdydd ac o amgylch y byd. Ein nod oedd hyrwyddo cynwysoldeb a chryfhau ein cymuned myfyrwyr drwy gydnabod effaith sylweddol unigolion du. Mae hefyd yn bwysig nodi ein bod wedi’n hymroi i sicrhau fod hanes pobl dduon yn cael ei gynrychioli a’i ddathlu trwy gydol y flwyddyn.
I nodi Mis Hanes Pobl Dduon, gwnaeth Prifysgol Caerdydd datgelu murlun 14 metr ar adeilad y Ganolfan Chwaraeon, fel teyrnged i gryfder parhaol chwaeroliaeth a chydnabyddiaeth o gyfraniadau menywod du i sylfeini ein cymuned.
Gwnaethom ymgysylltu â 281 o fyfyrwyr trwy ein digwyddiadau Mis Hanes Pobl Dduon, a oedd yn cynnwys clybiau llyfrau, seminarau, stondinau a ‘Blackademia’ (noswaith cyfryngu i ddathlu MHPDd), gyda Afrogene - noswaith am ddim wedi’i ymroi i ddathlu talent Affricanaidd ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd - i ddod ym mis Tachwedd.
Ffair Tai & Llesiant
Digwyddiad arwyddocaol arall ym mis Hydref oedd ein Ffair Tai & Llesiant am ddim. Llwyddom ddarparu cyngor ac arweinyddiaeth amhrisiadwy ar lety yng Nghaerdydd i fyfyrwyr, tra hefyd yn pwysleisio pwysigrwydd gofalu am eu lles. Roeddem yn ffodus i gael cefnogaeth amrywiaeth o sefydliadau, gan gynnwys timoedd Cyngor & Arian a Bywyd Preswyl y Brifysgol, elusen cartrefu Shelter Cymru, timoedd Cyngor Myfyrwyr a Rho Gynnig Arni Undeb y Myfyrwyr, Llety Caerdydd, a llawer mwy.
Rydym yn falch iawn fod 541 o fyfyrwyr wedi ymgysylltu â’r Ffair Tai & Llesiant, tra bod 201 o fyfyrwyr ychwanegol wedi mynychu’r sesiynau cyngor galw heibio yn ystod yr wythnos.

Etholiadau’r Hydref
Roedd Etholiadau’r Hydref yn llwyddiant ysgubol gyda 1115 o fyfyrwyr yn cymryd rhan ym mhroses yr etholiad. Roedd y nifer yma dros ddwbl ein targed gwreiddiol, ac rydym yn edrych ymlaen at ymgysylltiad pellach ym mis Tachwedd gyda’n his-etholiadau. Estynnwn ein diolch i bawb a bleidleisiodd yn Etholiadau'r Hydref 2023 a hoffem longyfarch bob ymgeisydd llwyddiannus.
Wythnos Binc
Hydref yw Mis Ymwybyddiaeth Canser y Fron (MYCF) ac ymunodd Undeb Myfyrwyr Caerdydd â’r ymdrech fyd-eang i godi ymwybyddiaeth. Nod ein Hwythnos Binc oedd rhannu arwyddion a symptomau canser y fron, a chodi ymwybyddiaeth am bwysigrwydd archwilio’ch bron. Yn ystod wythnos y 23ain i’r 29ain o Hydref gwnaethom annog myfyrwyr i gymryd rheolaeth o’u hiechyd a gofyn am gyngor pan fod ei angen.
Trwy ein stondinau, nosweithiau crefft, digwyddiadau pinc yn YOLO a hyd yn oed twrnamaint dodgeball, llwyddon ymgysylltu â 789 ohonoch chi, gyda llawer o bobl yn cofrestru ar gyfer negeseuon destun atgoffa CoppaFeel. Nid yw’n rhy hwyr i gofrestru chwaith, dilynwch y wybodaeth ar dudalen yr Wythnos Binc.
Clirio Caerdydd
Clirio Caerdydd yw cam gyntaf ein hymroddiad hir-dymor i wella amgylchedd ein dinas a lles ein myfyrwyr, gyda chymorth ein gwirfoddolwyr myfyrwyr.
Yn ystod mis Hydref bu ein gwirfoddolwyr anhygoel ar y stryd gyda bagiau sbwriel, yn glanhau ardaloedd yng Nghaerdydd. Mae ein hymgyrch Clirio Caerdydd nid ond yn pwysleisio pwysigrwydd amgylchedd glan a phleserus ond mae hefyd yn ffocysu ar y cyswllt uniongyrchol rhwng dinas glan a lles ein cymuned myfyrwyr.
Wrth symud ymlaen, mae Undeb Myfyrwyr Caerdydd wedi’i llawn ymroi i wneud Clirio Caerdydd yn ddigwyddiad cyson ac annatod ym mywyd myfyrwyr. Rydym yn credu, trwy weithio gyda'n gilydd, y gallwn greu dinas sydd nid yn unig yn addas ar gyfer addysg ond sydd hefyd yn gwella profiad cyffredinol myfyrwyr yn y brifysgol.
Os hoffech wirfoddoli, dewch i gwrdd â ni yng Nghanolfan Groeso Undeb Myfyrwyr Caerdydd am 1yh pob dydd Iau!
