Friday Night Performance
Baptista Minola, the CEO of Padua Ltd, is hounded by suitors asking for the hand of his youngest daughter, the beautiful and virtuous Bianca. Lucentio, a young man seeking success, arrives at Padua Ltd only to fall helplessly in love with Bianca, and resolves to marry her. However, Baptista refuses to give Bianca away until his older daughter, Katherina, has been married first. Katherina’s vile temper and wicked tongue do not make her a tempting bride, and therefore Bianca’s suitors decide to enlist the help of travelling salesman Petruchio. With his vulgar wit he proves that he is the only one with any hope of taming the wilful Katherina. She is pushed in to marrying him, and what follows is a battle of the sexes at its best. Petruchio’s cruel taunts and pranks break Katherina’s fiery resolve down, culminating in a disturbing ending which is problematic to modern audiences.
William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew is adapted to a 1960s office space, a corporate world where men make the rules and women struggle to fit at all.
