Surgical Society

Cardiff University Surgical Society (CUSS) is an active society seeking to support students throughout their medical education; where exposure to surgical practice is limited. CUSS hosts many teaching sessions, events and trips throughout the year aimed at increasing student exposure to surgery. Our society allows students to learn and gain confidence in a variety of surgical skills, including suturing, knot tying and cyst excision; skills that they would not normally be exposed to early on in their medical education.  We have strong links with other surgical societies allowing students to maximise their surgical experience through skill exchanges and talks from prolific surgeons throughout the UK. Past eminent speakers include: Major Mansell and Parveen Kumar. CUSS also organises events relevant to all medical students, including anatomy revision sessions, trips to surgical museums, talks, journal club and regular opportunities to not only watch surgery but also gain access to laparoscopic equipment to practice skills.

Whilst CUSS aims at giving students the chance to enhance their CVs and gain career advice, we are a friendly society and also run various socials throughout the year. There’s never been a more exciting time to get involved in CUSS!
