You asked for it, and we made it happen.

Exciting news! We can now announce that the ASSL will be open 24/7 from 4th January 2016 through until the end of June 2016 as a pilot to record the number of students using the library out of normal hours.
Your VP Education (Sophie Timbers), SU President (Claire Blakeway), VP Postgraduate (Katie Kelly) and VP Heath Park (Katey Beggan) worked together to collate as much student data as possible to make this happen.
From Speak Week comments, National Student Survey (NSS) 2015 comments, Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) and Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) comments as well as interviewing students, collecting student emails, and we even ran a Facebook campaign which received a lot of feedback and reasons as to why students wanted the library to open 24 hours!
Using this data, we put together a very long business proposal which was supported by the University Libraries team who worked with us to lobby with the university to allocate funding to the 24 hour opening of the ASSL. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. And even better – it’s just in time for your January exams.
However, with the luxury of having a 24/7 library, don’t forget to take regular breaks, drink plenty of water and don’t forget to eat! We’ll be working with our VP Welfare (Kate Delaney) to ensure you listen to some of our advice when it comes to studying late at night/early in the morning!
