You’re coming to Cardiff University!

As a new Cardiff University student, you’re automatically a member of the Students' Union. That means you have access to all the amazing services we offer, plus you have right to make crucial decisions about what the Union does and how it’s run. Our job here at Cardiff Students' Union is to make your transition into student life as smooth as possible, help you leave University more employable and make sure you have a lot of fun along the way!

Cardiff University Students’ Union (CUSU) is a unique organisation. It is led and directed by over 28,000 Cardiff University student members, run by a Board of Trustees and led by seven elected student officers. CUSU is a charity offering services, resources and support. We use money made through our bars, cafes, shops and events to improve the services offered to students – that’s you! We offer advice, representation, training, skills development, student activities, volunteering opportunities and employment. We join students in campaigning about the issues important to them and we aspire to have a positive impact on the wider community in Cardiff.

The Students’ Union on Park Place is purpose built for all 28,500 students at Cardiff University. Here you can meet the elected officers, get involved in societies, sports clubs, Student Voice and Student Media. It houses a range of food outlets, shops, social learning spaces and services for advice and learning new skills. We’ve recently redeveloped our nightclub and there are regular gigs in the Great Hall – one of the best venues in Cardiff.

This is the Students’ Union at the Heath Park campus, located in the IV Lounge next to the Cochrane Library. Here our healthcare students can join sports clubs and societies, get advice and gain skills, sexual health information and other services, IT support and a fabulous selection of Cardiff University hoodies. Don’t forget to say hello to Neil who runs the Hub. Find the Heath Hub on Facebook.

Bucket List

Cardiff is an amazing city to live in. There's so much to see and do during your time here, so to help you out we've compiled a few of our favourites. Click on the photos to find out more.

Take an open top bus tour around the city

Get a great view of leading famous attractions such as The Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Castle, The National Museum of Wales and the beautiful tranquil Alexandra Gardens. Hop off at Cardiff Bay and see this fantastic new development and the fascinating Cardiff Barrage which offers entertainment for everyone.

Eat Welsh Rarebit and try some Welsh cheese at Madam Fromage

A famous Welsh dish originating from the 18th century. A kind of ‘posh cheese on toast’, ingredients vary but mostly include Welsh cheese, ale and mustard mixed up and served on toast. Visit Cardiff’s most well-known cheese shop to gorge on local cheeses and try a Welsh inspired dish or two.

Wander around the Victorian and Edwardian Arcades

Cardiff boasts six historic arcades, which in total stretch to a length of 797m (2,655 ft.)! The beautiful arcades still retain many of their original features and are home to dozens of unique stores and cafés.

Go on a tour of the Millennium Stadium

Walk in the footsteps of Ryan Giggs. See where Madonna stood. Where Shane Williams laces his boots and where all the action takes place on event days. The Millennium Stadium is the home of Welsh sport, located right in the heart of the city, just a short walk from the Students’ Union.

Make some Welsh cakes with your new flatmates

There’s nothing like tea and cake for making new friends. Get in the Welsh spirit in your new kitchen and make some traditional Welsh cakes with your new flatmates. Or if you’re not feeling confident enough to make them yourself, visit Fabulous Welshcakes at Cardiff Bay to buy some from the professionals.

Feed the Geese in Roath Park

When the sun is shining in Cardiff, Roath Park is one of the lovely parts of the city. Feed the birds, treat yourself to an ice cream or hire a boat to row across the lake. Roath Park is located within walking distance of both the Heath Park and Cathays campuses.
