Hospital Student Volunteering
Youth Ward Befriender and Activity Volunteers (adult wards)

Under normal circumstances the application process will be as follows:
You will be recquired to fill out an application form for this project. To apply please sign up through the 'apply' section below and email Volunteering@cardiff.ac.uk to request the application form and role description.
Volunteer Role:
Please note you do not need previous experience to apply for this role and you will not be undergoing any clinical activity in this role. You must be aged 16-25 to be eligible for this project. You will need to be confident or looking to improve confidence and willingness to occasionally volunteer on your own or in small groups.
This role will include visiting patient in adult wards with other volunteers to keep patients company and keep them active by encouraging them to engage in a range of activities. This could be just sitting adn chatting, or playing board games, or painting their nails.
Location is allocated to you and could be University hospital wales (Heath Hospital), University hospital Llandough or St Davids Hospital. All train and bus tickets to and from volunteering are reimbursed.
You must be able to volunteer once a week, Monday to Friday sometime between the hours of 10am and 5pm at least until you have settled in to the ward. Weekend volunteer sessions are not guaranteed.
You will receive training and inductions before volunteering.
Required checks
Enhanced DBS (free of charge)
Occupational Health Check (A short questionnaire free of charge)
Two references
One-two hours of volunteering a week.
