This mentoring scheme works with young people with Autism Spectrum Condition between the ages of 14 and 18 who have the potential to go to university. Pupils on the scheme will be mentored by current university students who will help raise aspirations and improve skills needed for university. This will be done through activities such as workshops, academic taster sessions and social events.
The sessions run from 17:30 - 19:30. The first hour of each session usually focuses on learning more about university, while the second half will be spent having some pizza, playing board games and socialising with other participants.
We are looking for volunteers who are patient, good listeners, and enthusiastic about university. Volunteers will be asked to mentor the young people and help run the sessions and ice breakers to break down some of the traditional barriers to Higher Education experienced by this group.
