It Gets Better UK Volunteer Ambassador

What is the volunteering role?

What are the aims of this organisation/role?

Across the UK, our Regional Ambassadors are key to connecting with local LGBTQ+ communities, spreading our message, and empowering youth. By volunteering, you'll help ensure more people access our resources, share their stories, and support fundraising efforts. As a Regional Ambassador, you’ll lead in your area, grow our network, and amplify the voices of LGBTQ+ youth. From running stalls at Pride and speaking at events to partnering with local groups, your actions will make a lasting impact. Regional Ambassadors have the freedom to create activities that connect with their communities, like: Running stalls at Pride and other local events Giving talks to raise awareness Partnering with local groups to amplify our message Collecting It Gets Better video stories to ensure every voice is heard

What can volunteers expect to gain?

Become part of the Wales team and our UK-wide network of volunteers. Gain experience in teamwork, project planning and delivery, communication, networking.

What skills and abilities do I need to take on this role?

This is the role for you if... You have personal experience of being LGBT+ in the UK. You're a self-starter who takes the initiative, sees possibilities, and makes an impact. You're organised and can see a project through, from the ideas stage to delivery and reflection. Most projects are organised across a remote, online team, so you understand the importance of regularly updating team-mates and cracking on with a to-do list. You're a great communicator - confident talking to new people and in crowds. You're reliable, friendly, honest, and trustworthy. You have good knowledge of your local LGBT+ community, and have some ideas about how you could share It Gets Better UK resources locally.

Where is this opportunity based?

The role is remote and in your own community. We have a small group of Cardiff based volunteers so there'll be the opportunity to do some meetings in person too.

What is the time commitment of this role?

We expect all Ambassadors to complete a minimum of 4 actions per year which promote the It Gets Better UK story collection. Example actions include running a stall at Pride, collaborating with a local queer space to run an event, or more. With planning and delivery we ask volunteers to estimate 2 hours per week, with a higher output when delivering actions.

Is a DBS check required?

No
