What is the volunteering role?

What are the aims of this organisation/role?

Our ambition is for Cardiff to be a Dementia Friendly City, part of Welsh Government’s commitment to building Dementia Friendly Communities across Wales. Dementia Friendly Communities are places where the needs of people affected by dementia are understood and respected. Individuals are supported to maintain their identity, skills, and independence. It is estimated that the number of people living with dementia in Cardiff will increase by 30.1% by 2030 and 41.1% for advanced dementia. We need you to help and support local shops, businesses, and organisations across the city to become Dementia Friendly. Encourage them to take action to become more welcoming, accessible and provide better support for their clients who are living with dementia. Organisations can make a big difference; they are the front line interaction with people living with dementia in Cardiff.

What can volunteers expect to gain?

As a volunteer you will: • feel valued and have a sense of belonging • be treated equally free from discrimination • receive appropriate training, support, and supervision • be provided with flexible hours where possible. • be able to give and receive feedback and discuss any problems, grievances, or difficulties you may have with the Volunteer Coordinator • have safe volunteering conditions and be insured. • approved out of pocket expenses • Dementia Friendly Cardiff t-shirt and resource pack • be a key part to making a difference for people living with dementia in Cardiff.

What skills and abilities do I need to take on this role?

This role would suit anyone who is willing to connect with the community and is passionate about making Cardiff a Dementia Friendly City. The Dementia Friendly Ambassador role is flexible both in terms of time and commitment. You will need two character references in order to apply.
