Event Information

Gair Rhydd (Welsh for the Free Word) is Cardiff's very own student newspaper, run by and for students (it's in English, but there is a Welsh section).  This year we've started a cartoon feature on page 2, and we're looking to get some more people involved in drawing or photomanipulating some images.

We'll be giving out news stories from Gair Rhydd and online sources, and students will be challenged to come up with a joke that combines two or more themes from current events (for example, Nigel Farage and the Clown craze).

We'll also take a short look at colouring your cartoons and how they look placed onto the page. At the end we'll print the page off and you'll have a mock-up to bring home and show off. You'll also be able to join a Facebook group where you will be invited to come up with a cartoon each week.

Please bring:

  • Paper
  • A pen,
  • Any extra drawing materials you would like to use
  • Optionally a news story you'd like to write about (just tell us about it, don't have to print it).
