Event Information

Poverty in the UK?

Over 750,000 children across the UK often go to bed hungry. It's a shameful reality in the sixth richest country in the world.

The latest child poverty statistics indicate than an estimated 24% (17,440) of children in Cardiff are living in child poverty, this represents the highest number for any local authority in Wales!

The benefits cap has left unemployed families subsidising their rent using the money they would spend on food. When parents have their benefits withdrawn, it's the children who must go to bed hungry every night.

Following 2 year's success, Cardiff Ahlul Bayt Islamic Society (Absoc) brings back the campaign to make it bigger and better!

Absocs and other faith based socieites up and down the country will unite to collect non-perishable food items for local food banks, in addition to interfaith events raising awareness of UK Poverty.

Watch out for the YELLOW FOOD BIN by the SU or around campus and help by donating. We will be coming around TALYBONT on Wedneaday 1st March to collect more food!

Please donate the following non-perishable food items to help us combat local food poverty:
