The outcome of the current Brexit negotiations will have a huge impact on students and universities for decades to come. Will the UK remain part of the ERASMUS+ programme that enables students to study abroad? Will EU students be classed as international students in future? Will the EU research funding and collaboration which our universities and postgraduate students rely on continue? More broadly, will the UK seek to remain part of the EU Single Market or the Customs Union? Will the UK maintain EU standards on workers’ rights, consumer standards or environmental protections? While the June 2016 vote led the UK Government to begin the negotiations to leave the European Union, the actual details of Britain’s potential future relationship with the EU are yet to be decided across a thousand different issues.

The People's Vote campaign is bringing together people from across the political spectrum, including people who voted Leave and Remain in 2016, to call upon the government to give the British people a say on the final Brexit deal at the end of the negotiations. This will ensure that each of us can decide democratically whether or not to accept the Brexit deal when all of the facts and details can be set out clearly for the first time. 1.4 million young people aged 18, 19 and 20, who make up a huge proportion of university students, were too young to vote in the initial Brexit vote but still deserve a say on their future.

Organisations from the Royal College of Midwives to the National Union of Students are supporting giving people a say on the Brexit deal and in June over 100,000 people marched in London calling for a vote.

On 8th September the People's Vote campaign is holding its Wales Rally in Cardiff Bay as part of a nationwide tour.  It will hear from leading national political figures as well as representatives from all walks of life across Wales. They’ll also share opportunities to get involved with the campaign moving forward.

For students who wish to attend we will be providing free travel to Cardiff Bay for the rally. Please purchase a free ticket on this page to reserve a seat on the minibus. Please note seats are limited and will run out. If you would like to attend, you must also register for a free ticket to the rally itself here.

We will leave at 12.30 from the Senghennydd Road entrance of the Students’ Union to drive to Cardiff Bay. Doors to the rally close at 1.30pm and the rally will be from 2-3pm. We will then drive you back to the Students’ Union for around 3.30.
